iv’e said what i have to say numerous times before in this thread. I’m not repeating myself again to someone who can’t seem to grasp the idea of having 2nd string/reserve players at a football club that have just as much right to play as any established 1st teamer

end of story bill, move on, getting monotonous now

After Saturday’s performance I think the “reserves” ARE the stronger team, especially for the Everton game. I really do.

So I take it that you didn’t watch little Wigan when we was down in the doldrums looking to take a league teams scalp or a scalp from the teams playing leagues above us?

It’s what its all about this football supporting malarkey. We have proved year on year that we can’t beat Everton on their own middin with our strongest team on the pitch. [OK yes I was there when DF scored the winner and I think camara got us a win or a draw un awe]

I hope Bobby plays a decent mixture of senior and fringe players, but no matter what I’ll be behind my team Wigan Athletic. goodpost

Whats with all this Prem team/Cup team gumpf? last time I looked Fyvie Macca etc wore exactly the same shirts as McCarthy Di Santo and the rest.Wigan Athletic FC have a 25 man squad as required and the manager is fully entitled to use these players as he deems neccessary.After the terrible display on Saturday had this been another league game many would have wanted changes anyway.I cannot see how anyone can say one team is better than the other when in fact they are actually the same squad of lads who have probably at some time all played together. Im confused :silly:

I’m not sure how I brushed over what you said (presuming you mean the “name your team” bit) when I said “My starting XI wouldn’t be a whole lot different to the one which started against Liverpool” and would have thought that “Saturday(s) performances of the likes of McCarthy, McArthur, Di Santo & Boyce can be put down to off days. Same of Caldwell if I’m honest. Al Habsi has consistantly under-performed & needs dropping IMO” was pretty self-explanatory.
However, if you need it spelling out in black & white I would go for the following team:
GK – Robles (dunno if that’s how you spell his name)
RWB – Boyce
LWB – Beausejour
CH – Figueroa
CH – Scharner
CH – Alcaraz (to get his match fitness back – I’d have no issue putting Caldwell in)
CM – McCarthy
CM – McArthur
RAM – Di Santo
CF – Kone
LAM – Maloney

You’re right, I think that team would probably get “bummed by upper premier league opposition” as you put it but IMO it stands more chance of getting a positive result than the one we’re possibly more likely to see:
GK – Robles
RB – Stam
LB – Figueroa
CH – Alcaraz
CH – Golobart
RCM – Espinoza
CM – McArthur
LCM – Fyvie
RAM – Gomez
CF – Henriquez
LAM – McManaman
To me a line up like that just screams “we’re not bothered about the cup” & I think it’s wrong. At the end of the day though it’s Bobby’s choice & a manager lives & dies by his decisions, just that my original reason for posting was that a) you can criticise the performance of Saturday & even certain players but also acknowledge that it is still our strongest side & b) as much as I love Wigan Athletic if a manager treats any competition as less of a priority as another then I will treat it as less of a priority when it comes to deciding what i spend my money on & I won’t go
