Mark Jenkins ex CEO at West Brom has spoke out about clubs and their plights in the Championship.
“It was obvious that given the Covid pandemic it was essential that the club be promoted this season as the financial challenges facing the remaining Championship clubs is, quite frankly, frightening.”
TV Championship money alone will not be enough. Without matchday money I’m afraid plenty more clubs will hit the wall and before Christmas.
I suggest a new League in prep:
The Covid National League North/South5 August 2020 at 9:17 am #188546No doubt any club now gets the force majeure ruling going forward.
5 August 2020 at 9:26 am #188547Right, how do we look forward? All potential buyers now have clarity on league revenues, the saleable value of player assets and the wage structure, all of which were uncertain before. Before today I don’t see how any buyer could have made a plan, but now they can. The uncertainty remains on gate receipts. Lots of clubs have been thRough administration and come through it, a much smaller number have gone to the wall. The only thing for sure is things will be different, speaking to Bolton supporters, they got through and have a team to support, and most probably agree that is the most important thing.
Big news now to watch for is the development of the ownership, I just hope we get someone who can provide stability first and the progress (hopefully with unity!).5 August 2020 at 12:18 pm #188549I have to agree with you. Now we know were we stand it’s time any potential new owners to come forward. I’m sure most had plan A and B stay up/go down option and some not interested..
They need to get the ball rolling yesterday and stop this Admin from devastating the clubs playing staff. It’s OK culling wages but there’s a point were it becomes a full on total rebuild.I always felt that, if an owner was willing to take us on regardless then taking the drop would be in our best interest. It would give the chance for the club to clear the decks under this Covid restrictions. Let’s not forget that there are an awful lot of clubs with high earning players and the club can do nothing bar pay them while the club is losing money hand over fist due to the Covid crisis.
With a new owner we could be in the position were most of these will have left the club and new players and contracts can be re-negotiated.
Fingers crossed someone will be in place in the next few weeks and we can plan ahead otherwise it’s Daisy Hill and St Helens Town7 August 2020 at 12:58 pm #188599Contacted EFL questioning the unfairness of Wigan and Sheffield Wednesdays penaltys and the hugely different timescales for the investigation process and got this fob off bull@@@@ reply……what did I expect??Thank you for your e-mail.
While I note your views on this matter, it is first worth clarifying that one of the main responsibilities of the EFL is to enforce and uphold its rules and regulations, as agreed by and on behalf of all member Clubs, in order to maintain sporting integrity.
In November 2019 the EFL issued Sheffield Wednesday with a charge relating to breaches of its Profitability and Sustainability (P&S) rules. Since then the matter has been in the hands of the Independent Disciplinary Commission, and it is the Commission themselves who has responsibility for reaching a decision on any potential sanction, following representations from both parties. While we share the view that these matters should be concluded as quickly as possible, due to the complex and legal nature of the charges, the process can take a significant period of time to be resolved.
For absolute clarity, while EFL rules determine the application of points deductions for an insolvency event, such as Administration (in the case of Wigan Athletic), the decision and timing of any sanctions determined by an Independent Disciplinary Commission, is entirely at their discretion.
Kind Regards

The issues with ours are:
A – The owner cited covid as the reason which is surely force majeure.
B – If they deem it not to be then seeing as he buggered off after 3 weeks, how was he fit and proper and why should we pay for the EFLs cock up7 August 2020 at 2:53 pm #188602Two totally different cases.

7 August 2020 at 6:24 pm #188608Whelan said that he sold the club in “perfect” condition and that he does not understand how the side have ended up in administration.
The 83-year-old also confirmed that he is keen to assist and will “stick his nose in”.
He added: “I thought they were going to invest in the club and keep it going, invest money and try to get them back in the Premier League, and now this… I just cannot understand what they’ve done. It’s just so sudden.
“When I sold the club it was in a good condition, perfect.
“I’ll have to stick my nose in a little and have a look at what’s going on, and see if I can find out what’s caused it. I’ll have to try, because the people of Wigan will be in absolute shock, as I am.
“Wigan is Wigan. I built the stadium and it’s named after me, the DW Stadium, so I’m going to have to see if I can help in any way shape or form.
“Wigan going out of business, it’s something you cannot comprehend. I won’t let that happen. The town of Wigan cannot let that happen.”
23 February 2021 at 4:55 pm #188526You’d be watching rugby only if he buys it. He wants the ground not the club, we’d be with Bury
In which case if Koukash buys it (a St Helens fan), he should put the Cuckoo’s rent up as his first job. I’m with Bullit; Lenagan doesn’t appeal to me at all, and I might just vote with my feet because I cannot see anything in it other than Lenagan’s self interest. I remain to be convinced !
I’m more concerned about Koukash sticking to the FFP rules and not spitting his dummy out when he can’t buy success as he did at Salford
Ffp doesn’t mean a damn thing. Look at Wolves. Look at Man City and Chelsea. All have spent or spend far more than what they generate.
Look at Nob End, financed like a toy for uncle Trev to the extent of something like 90 million over the years. Rovers and the chicken men. Cheapest seats around and little support and generating a fraction of income than what the chicken men put in.
Hats off to a couple of clubs. The Dingles and Brentford have it right. -
