Wigan boss Owen Coyle tried to sign a new striker prior to his side’s Capital One Cup defeat at the hands of Manchester City. Coyle told the Wigan Evening Post;
“Before the game we enquired about getting in a striker on loan with a view to buying him, but his club didn’t want to part with him which I totally understood. We are still actively pursuing a striker, as well as possibly another couple if the right player becomes available.”

Championship leaders QPR have signed Uruguay striker Javier Chevanton on a short-term deal, subject to international clearance.
