All that is wrong with the English game, the premier league and their paymasters sky.
30 mill for any of those overated failures is pathetic and 100k a week for a teenager stinks.
Scrap the Premier League today and lets start to build our national side again.28 June 2014 at 12:00 am #132065All that is wrong with the English game, the premier league and their paymasters sky.

Scrap the Premier League today and lets start to build our national side again.I agree but you wouldn’t be saying that if you were Mr and Mrs Shaw. :woohoo:
From Matlock to ManU

28 June 2014 at 5:00 pm #132070Southampton transferred Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur for £7 million in 2007. Was that bad for Southampton, Tottenham, Wales or football in general?
We need to develop more home-grown talent, and this shows that Southampton are a club that can do it. Their list includes Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain too. Manchester United have signed Luke Shaw and Liverpool are interested in Adam Lallana.
We need more clubs who can find and develop players like these. Southampton have also sold Rick Lambert to Liverpool, so they obviously have some rebuilding to do under Ronald Koeman before next season.

The problem is the Premier League. They don’t give a toss about England. All they want to do is milk as much cash out of Sky and BT as they can.The FA are just really concerned with paying for Wembley – still !!!!
The other major problem is the fact that non of our top clubs has an English manager so they don’t give a toss about England either. I would be interested to know how many youngsters in the big club’s academies are actually English.
That plus the poor technique and lack of big game experience of many of the players – how many have played in the Champions League – mean we’re stuffed for years to come really.
Come on Greece !!!!! ;)

I see this as good and bad.
Southampton have certainly done a great job nurturing young players. They were also smart with their scouting in youth football and got talent to join at a young age.
However, the fee and wages being quoted for Luke Shaw is also part of the problem. It isn’t going to help increase the number of young British players who are going to be given a chance at clubs playing in Europe or challenging for trophies. This fee proves they can still buy foreign players cheaper and with proven records. Ironically this is probably what Southampton will now need to do with the money.I also hope Luke Shaw’s career continues to progress and he doesn’t think he has now made it with this contract.
