Based on the form tables there certainly no gimmee but Cook will be a clown on social media if we don’t beat them. Just reading his comments on Wigan Today seems quite bitter about the criticsm he got. To be honest think he got off quite lightly from the crowd on match days, social media obviously toxic but claims not to read it.

All the great work done will be undone if we have a bad game and subsequently bad result
However if we can put these men to bed not only does it give us a healthy cushion over them it could see us reeling the likes of Hull ,QPR, and even Sheff Weds in. Because of the last 3 results its probably made this game massive for obvious reasons. Confidence must be sky high now with the lads let’s just hope nerves don’t set in and derails the mother of all escapes.COYL

All the hard work will be undone? I wouldn’t go that far, are they going to take the points off us? No team has a divine right in this division to beat anyone. Ask WBA and Leeds.

Your right though massive chance to put Luton out of our reach. They won’t claw 9 points back and they know that, history shows these games are always frustrating.

Reckon 50 points sees us safe so 3 on Saturday and it’s a much easier escape route.

Fixtures against a team bottom of the table have always been a banana skin for us so I’ll be approaching this game with my customary pessimism, although Luton are not a conventional bottom side with their own good run.

I don’t think Cook would have survived at many other clubs and was aware of the possibility of the sack eary in the season when our poor run started. As every pundit, manager and football “expert” says, football is a results based business, and, the buck stops with the manager, so really Paul Cook has more than ridden his luck.

Football thought is littered with managers who have gotten lucky on the way to success, so maybe Cook can be the same at Championship level?

Let’s look at our record in the championship and maybe you may be more realistic in what constitutes a success.

In 2014/15 we finished second from bottom on 39 points.
In 2016/17 we finished second from bottom with 42 points.
Last season we finished 18th with 52 points.

Some of you are now beginning to sound like PC bumming up the opposition before we’ve played them. Luton are bottom of the league because that’s where they deserve to be.

There is not one player in their team that I would swap for one of ours, so let’s keep confident, let’s prove we are better than the league table suggests and let’s smash um on satdy.

Pessimism and wisdom in hindsight are the way to go for me!

But hope you’re right jr however massively unlikely.

Roy, on a more positive note, we could also look at the other three seasons when we have played in the Championship.

In 2003/04 we finished 7th with 71 points
In 2004/05 we finished 2nd with 87 points
In 2013/14 we finished 5th with 73 points

Incidently we have still played more seasons in the Premier League (eight) than in the Championship (seven, including this season.)

No doubt we’ll give Graeme Jones a rousing reception and one-nil down with five minutes to go he’ll make a tactical substitution, score two goals and win.
It’s Latics way of doing things.

I’m detecting a slight bit of nerves around the camp.

The three wins appear to have had different effects on the light and darksiders. Lightsiders are now predicting a late surge to a play off spot, securing promotion and ‘knocking Liverpool off their perch’ next season. Whereas the darksiders have gone a little quite with their rabid rantings that Paul Cook is the devil incarnate.

However, the league table indicates we are still very much in a relegation battle and Sammy reminds us of our ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Interesting fixtures this weekend, everyone at the bottom playing each other bar Barnsley and Huddersfield, 5 pm tomorrow and the table could look a lot kinder
