      Home to m.k.dons at home what does everyone think

      #124541

      I’d say good draw for us.

      A home draw against a lower division team is a good draw.

      My biggest fear was getting drawn away to a higher Championship team eg Burnley, Leicester and getting stuffed. If we have to go out in the 3rd round then I would have hoped it was against a potential cup winner.

      A few all Prem ties as well so not bad at all.

      Yep quite happy with that draw

      Potentially great for me, but a living nightmare should we lose. I live and work in MK and coach an u16s team full of kids that go to see them every week. My closest work colleague’s son plays in their academy and couple of my mates are season ticket holders!
      Please let us win this one…

        I’d sacrifice an FA cup 4th round draw for a play off place, if we get knocked out of the Europa (which is more than likely gonna happen)It will give the manager a chance to sort things out in the Jan window and make a push for a play off place.

        All the Coyle squad rotation was beyond belief. I didn’t here Chelsea players moaning when they played 55-60 games last season.

          I don’t think our players complained, Coyle seemed to do it for the sake of it when the best thing would have been to try to get a settled side together.

          All this shit about tiredness is bollocks, most of our players even now after 5 Euro games have probably played less games than most players in our league.
          Granted a few like Boycie may have played as many, which is a bit ironic as he, if any, at his age should have been playing less.

          At least Martinez tried to blood youngsters and fringe players in the Cup competitions last season, until it got to the point where he obviously couldn’t.

          In principle I agree with what you say about tiredness except that you have to factor in that a number of our squad are internationals and have played those too with travel, so they haven’t played so few.

          Bolton Wanderers have played 21 first team games this season, including 5 midweek fixtures.

          After tonight, Wigan Athletic will have played 26 first team games, including 10 midweek fixtures.

          So Bolton have had 5 more weeks than Wigan clear of matches for them to rest, train and recover from knocks. Wigan have also had to make 3 longer trips into Europe.

          And there have been 3 international breaks so far. Several Wigan players have played two matches in these breaks and travelled thousands of miles. Other players have had two weeks without a competitive game.

          So Bolton will have had 7 clear days to prepare for the game against Wigan. Wigan will play in Maribor on Thursday night, return home, recover on Friday, train on Saturday, and play on Sunday. And all under a new manager too.

          The extra midweek and international games must tell against the players, and so must the travel.

          That’s a very strange claim to make. I don’t know how you reached that conclusion – perhaps you just made it up.

          Anyway, it isn’t true for Sunday’s match against Bolton – and Wigan still have an extra game to play tonight.

          People have complained about Coyle’s rotation policy but, without it, Wigan players would have made even more appearances.

          Appearances for Wigan;

          23 Barnett played v Maribor = 24
          21+3 Boyce sub v Maribor = 21+4
          20 Perch played v Maribor = 21
          20+1 Watson sub v Maribor = 20+2
          18+2 McArthur played v Maribor = 19+2
          17+3 Powell played v Maribor = 18+3
          13+8 McClean
          13+5 Gomez played v Maribor = 14+5
          13 Crainey
          12+5 McCann played v Maribor =13+5
          11+8 McManaman played v Maribor = 12+8

          Appearances for Bolton;

          20 Baptiste
          19 Kamara
          19 Beckford
          19 Lee
          18 Spearing
          16 Ream
          15 Mills
          15 N’Gog
          14 Hall
          13 Pratley
          13 Knight

          That’s because Chelsea rotated their squad so that most players didn’t start more than 55 games last season.

          Chelsea played a total of 69 games last season. Benitez, like Ranieri, loved to tinker with the team and rotatated the squad constantly.

          Chelsea used a total of 26 players, relying mainly on a squad of 15, not including John Terry. Cech made 63 appearances, but the only outfield player to start more than 55 games was Ivanovic with 57 + 2 more as substitute.

          Other leading players;
          Ramires 54+8
          Luiz 54+3
          Torres 51+13
          Mata 51+13
          Cole 50+1

          Without a big squad and rotation, Chelsea couldn’t have survived their punishing schedule. All the teams who regularly play in Europe – Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and even Tottenham – use rotation and have squads big enough to field two different teams.

          Coyle simply adopted the same policy.
