Strong Interest. Now that would be a good signing. Strong and fast.

Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf claims to have the opportunity to join Wigan on loan among other interested clubs.

The 24-year-old wants to play on a regular basis, but has made just three appearances this season and all of his outings have come in the Carling Cup.
Diouf’s chances are limited at United given the competition for places with Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Danny Welbeckand, when he returns to fitness, Michael Owen.
Welbeck proved the benefits of loan moves after enjoying a successful time at Sunderland last season and Diouf hopes to follow that lead with a possible switch to Premier League strugglers Wigan.

“It is an option at the moment and a good one. I want to go and play week in, week out and try to impress Sir Alex Ferguson,” the Senegal international, who has already been loaned to former club Molde and Blackburn since joining United in 2009, told skysports.com.

“If I can finish the season strongly, I can challenge for a position next season like Danny has done this season.

“Wigan could be a key for me. I have done okay for Blackburn, but need to do well on my next loan. There are other teams interested as well.”

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez had been interested in Diouf’s United team-mate, Federico Macheda, before the Italian was loaned to Queens Park Rangers.

Think the Macheda thing could have been a red herring. I reckon the papers latched on to a rumor we were in for a United striker and put 2+2 together but came up with 5. Diouf is far more the complete striker. Everybody knows in this league to be a good striker these days your main attribute is pace and a bit of clinical finishing. Di Santo has the footwork and work rate but is no way a premiership striker. He would blossom in Italy or Spain but not here in this league.

Hope Martinez can pull this one off.

I think anyone with that little bit of class and street wise attitude could do well for us. We have lacked that for a while now. Hugo has not been good enough now for well over 12 months and historically we have never replaced Ellington and Roberts combo from the glory year of promotion. On that note, i feel we havent actually improved things with regards to defenders since we got promoted. our first year in prem had us with baines hencoz arry and chimbonda. compare that to what we have now and some may argue we are worse off with what we have at present. Thats disappointing when we should be looking to improve things.

back to forward line up. we’ve got di santo, sammon, hugo, weve had moreno weve had scotland. Blackburn currently have a striker on the bench week in week out who they wont play as it will activate player bonus. he is a handfull, strong fast and a good eye for goal. Why not bring back Jason Roberts on a short term loan. he’d be on a fraction of the wage hugo is on (i suspect) and would probably offer more. Also think it would have a big impact on the fans too.

anyway yosser, yes i think diouf would be good signing too.

This may be a little controversial, but we dont need another striker especially one who is unproven at both man utd or blackburn, our midfield and forward line is playing well at the moment and looking like scoring goals, but is being undermined by shambolic defending and that is putting pressure on them to score more goals, we cannot win a match by scoring a single goal and that is what is letting us down most, every man and his dog including the opposition knows we will do something stupid within a game and conceed making it much easier for them to play against us.

The only signings needed are TWO decent central defenders who know how to defend – forget if they have the ability to pass the ball the martinez way or not, just stop other teams having it easy in our box.

Also a left wing back, or bring PVA back in the fold – our predicament means that any issues or differences have to be resolved and some pride swallowed for the good of the club.

Other than 2 centre backs perhaps cover for diame and that is all we need.

If we can get the foundations sorted and start keeping some clean sheets we would be a very good team as the first half display against sunderland showed.

      edit
I forgot to add, if anyone from the club is listening, please, please dont let Gohouri pull on a Wigan Athletic shirt ever again.

I think we DO need another striker as Hugo just doesn’t cut it for me and Sammon despite his great efforts is quite simply out of his depth ! Also Hugo is always linked to a move away and I believe he will go sooner than later ! Di Santo is a half decent striker on his day but Bob leaves him out more than not for some strange reason !

This all smacks of a player/agent trying to engineer himself some game time, to me.

you were correct in your opinion of the board in an earlier thread, it has gone downhill.
