When Roberto “came home” I was delighted, particularly as he was a former player with the club close to his heart.

He had done well at Swansea and appeared to be one of the brightest young managers in the game. And who could argue with the start he made at Latics? A 2–0 win at Villa park when we played like we were Barcelona (Villa were shyte though!)

The more direct, physical, no nonsense style of Bruce was a thing of the past as we now had a manager who had brought a continental style and the beautiful game to Little Wigan.

So almost 18 months on we are not dreaming of one day playing European football, we are fearing that we may be going to grounds in the fizzy pop league next season.

I have been behind Roberto 100% and will continue to be while he is in charge, but after the disappointment of last night where IMO we had a great chance to take the game to Arsenal and giving us possibly the best chance of major silverware (looking at the way the draw panned out), I am increasingly of the opinion that a change needs to be made.

Roberto has done great in getting rid of the dead wood in the squad and signing some cracking players. In fact I think he has shown his true vocation. It is not as a football manager, but rather a top football scout or even director of football that you see on the continent.

We have signed the top scorer from the South American Champions League, arguably Scottish football’s two most promising talents in McCarthy and McArthur, another top quality up and coming English player in Moses, one of the stars of the World Cup defensively in Alcaraz on a free, and a player who IMO has the potential to mix it with the best midfielders in this league in Diame.

Whatever people may think of Martinez he certainly has something about him to persuade these players to come to our club.

I also happen to think Stam was a good signing and even Gohouri was pretty good as a free transfer. And what about spotting Al Habsi?

All cracking players in my book who are not being used to their full potential. I have never seen a manager so rigid that is has taken him more than an entire season to even tinker with his 4-5-1 so that he swaps his wingers over to different flanks during a game.

I will always respect Roberto for being Wigan through and through, but I don’t want to see the club I love suffer relegation as I think we would struggle to get back.

Roberto should be our new John Benson.

i make that just about spot on. I’ve mentioned before that he needs help (i’ll set that one up for the comedians on here).
He always looks on his own out there (Wenger chats to Pat Rice, Fergie to his puppet, Hodgson to Sammy Lee etc etc).
Could do with a bloke who might persuade him to mix it up a bit.
We’ve seen what these players are capable of, but they need to do it more often!

I think certainly some help is bar minimum. But seeing as Roberto is so stubborn I doubt he would accept it.

I couldn’t get to the game last night so listened to it on the radio, but one thing Alan Pardew said about us and this has been said many times before, is how long it took Martinez to make any changes in personnel and in formation.

Obviously I can’t really comment not having been there last night, but why didn’t we just go all attack last night, bearing in mind Arsenal’s leaky defence?

That Kosecielny must be one of the worst defenders and worst signings of the season yet we didn’t put him under any pressure
