Warnock,Bruce,Grayson, and yet we still have Martinez, :) as Greavesie used to say its a funny old game
2 February 2012 at 11:48 am #80200Might just be that those managers weren’t performing to the satisfaction of their employers or achieving the objectives they had been set.
2 February 2012 at 12:15 pm #80203What is that then to to take us down because he is doing a top job of that.Send him a few quid to a monaco bank account, secret bonus?

You never know, do you? Well, you don’t.
Good quote technique, by the way. Sitting, right way and bog springs to mind.

Glad to see Bob is still here and fighting fit. At least he has the heart to continue, unlike some of the fans support.
2 February 2012 at 2:51 pm #80219If anything , what happened on dealine day should have gained Bob some degree of darkside sympathy. Tried to sign 3 new players , who “probably” would have improved the team , and all 3 turn us down. That’s what we are up against. If that had happened to Bruce or one of the big name saviours that the darkside keep churning out , then those managers would have been off faster than an Italian captain on a sinking ship.
Fortunately for us , Bob will take it on the chin and still battle to keep us up – even with one hand tied behind his back.
2 February 2012 at 3:08 pm #80221Thing is, we just wouldn’t know or probably won’t find out whether or not someone could do a better job because its obvious he’s staying.
If you look at the likes of Sunderland with O’Neill, they have had no extra money and he has improved the results immediately (granted he has a better squad to start off with).
Hodgson last year did the same for West Brom.I’m not saying getting you a new manager guarantees you this, and with top managers unlikely to want to come to a sinking ship it might be hard to get the quality of manager the likes of above.
Looks like we’re stuck with Martinez so we just have to hope and pray he works things round. His philosophy which is well documented relies upon getting young players and giving them the freedom to develop their skills without the usual strict parameters of get rid football. This is going to take time and i just worry if Bob has got the right people in place for this and has enough time to monitor the day to day progress of this because this is where our future hinges.
Just read his autobiography from the time he was at Swansea and he does talk alot of sense but i still believe we are his proving ground.

That’s a bloody good post Lowton.
2 February 2012 at 7:27 pm #80241I really struggle with this notion that posters quote that poor Bob” tried to sign 3 players but what can he do when they don’t want to come “.They dont want to come because 3 seasons in he has eroded what profile we built in the previous 4.He is the manager,he chose the players,he choses tactics so surely he is responsible for us propping up the table and the reason why players see us as dead man walking…

Not hard really; surprised you struggle with it
2 February 2012 at 7:34 pm #80244Or £6.5 mill ,30 k per week then go sun yourself in Italy and Argentina!!

Are you taking the piss??? the reason why IMO three players turned us down is that Bob is taking us down with bells on. We are not the biggest team in the world but I would expect we are alot more attractive than Watford or Bristol City. But why would they leave the Championship to go back to the Championship???

WBA chairman Jeremy Peace is renowned for his prudence in what he pays in wages to the playing staff, something that west brom fans have complained about for years, Martinez is a victim of his own lack of success – why on earth would any player want to commit to a guaranteed relegation – its not as though they can top their wages up with any win bonus as a consolation.

Hey up “guaranteed relegation” your lining yourself up for another foot in mouth season.
As I’ve said before, its gonna be tough but we can do it. The likes of Bolton, Wolves and Blackburn supporters have also got twitchy bums, just like the array of defeatists on here.
From Matlock to ManU
