…… Fortune scored today!! …….
….. rumour has it that he maybe the striker we’re looking for??
6 January 2019 at 8:00 pm #174878With Callum Lang just popping in winner at Premier league Fulham the mind boggles.

Only us..
6 January 2019 at 8:49 pm #174881Will Grigg scored against Man City but some say he isn’t good enough for the Championship.
My point – a goal against Fulham in the cup doesn’t make him Leonel Messi.

No, but that goal couldve been at the Hawthorns for Wigan Athletic. Not at Craven Cottage, for Oldham.
As for Messi, we’d sign him and then not play him, due to it being an “unforgiving league” no doubt.
And Grigg is good enough for the championship. Hes just at the wrong club, with the wrong manager, playing the wrong system and wrong tactics.

Not only us. I think you’ll find plenty clubs have sent players out on loan who have then gone on to score for their temporary club.
6 January 2019 at 9:15 pm #174886What about all the other clubs he failed at?
As for Lang he has scored 5 goals in 23 games in League 2. Hardly prolific is he?
6 January 2019 at 9:16 pm #174887Everyone would want him sold after 3 games without a goal anyway.
6 January 2019 at 11:03 pm #174894Harry Kane scored 12 in 40 for Leyton Orient and Millwall but he turned out OK. What have we got to lose at minute? It’s like we won’t give our academy lads a chance. All coaches rave on about Joe Gelhardt who plays for England too but he can’t get on bench either. If he’s worse than that Lopes I can’t see why likes of City and United would want to sign him?
May as well close academy as we just bring in youngsters from other clubs. The whole place needs a spark and it’s like we are frightened to give these lads a chance. Hardly banging em in are we?
6 January 2019 at 11:54 pm #174896It doesn’t matter who Cook brings in, his style of play and run of recent results means the rot has well and truly set in.
It needs someone with fresh ideas and wipe the slate clean I mean, would you wanna sign for a club in the position were in and a changing room I’m sure will resemble a morgue ?.
For me, get a new guy in,
Bring 2 or 3 in
change the style of play
and hope for the best because carrying on the way we are it’s relegation for sure.
I was looking forward to seeing Lopez hoping he might inject some life into the team. From what I saw he’s either not good enough, not ready or he’s in Wigan Athletic mindset mode.7 January 2019 at 12:46 am #174897Timid and lacking confidence. Did we really scout that?
7 January 2019 at 3:45 am #174901Well someone was stupid enough to invest a million pound for a “one for the future”. That money should have been spent on a “one for today” player.
It’s decisions like that that aren’t helping our fight to stay in the championship.7 January 2019 at 4:24 am #174902Totally agree with bigroy and cup winners.
Our recruitment leaves a lot to be desired. All this “one for the future” malarky, what future? League one or two?
By which point the player will leave on a free, or be sold cheaply. You are right when you say its NOW we need to be spending money on.
Cook has served his purpose. He got us out of league one. But hes out of his depth now and we need a new man, a higher profile manager with higher experience. We also need some money spent on bringing better players in.
I keep reading that theres no money to spend. Well what’s the point in the new owners taking us over then? They say they want Premier League in two years? Well thats going to cost. The current squad is a long way of being promotion challengers. In my opinion, we are nowhere near as good as Paul Jewell’s 2003 division 2 (now league one) winners. That team went up, challenged near the Play Off positions, but just fell short. The second season we went up as runners up. Like I say, we are a long way off being that good.7 January 2019 at 11:49 am #174903I think some of us have gotten a little carried away with this takeover and think we have been bought by Shiekh Mansour.
Yes the new guys have said there will be funds but I doubt that equates to the sums that the likes of Stoke have just thrown around or to be able to spend the sort of budgets a Mark Hughes or David Moyes would want let alone the transfer budget they would then want. That’s why I ask who people want to replace Cook and so far it has all been pipe dream material.
Our record transfer fee even in the PL days was £6m and I don’t see that being topped anytime soon, but I do think we will be able to sign players at 3 or 4 mill as opposed to the standard 1 or 2. I honestly can’t see them using their own fortunes and IEC itself doesn’t seem to be mega rich but they could help us generate more income to help the club than previously.
They have also mentioned relying on youth so I do think the likes of Lang will get a chance but it will be next season after we stay up this season.

Ive not got carried away at all.
I dont expect us to be chucking daft money around, but if the owners are serious about getting us back to the top, they will be very naive if they think it isnt going to necessitate some spending. It most definitely is going to.
This current squad is miles away.
