I agree completely with the posters on that link who say that £7mill for a 2nd division striker is one hell of a risk
Whilst I’m sure payments are dependant on appearances, goals, international call ups etc.. it still seems like a hell of alot of money to pay for a 2nd division striker & below the top flight Spanish football is of a poorer standard than the English equivalent (IMO).
If Latics had signed someone for £7mill from the Championship I doubt people would be too happy but it seems that coz he’s Argentinian & has been on the books at some “big name clubs” people are getting excited

I think their football is superb. Remember that D’Allessandro who was at Portsmouth, or Zurate at Birmingham? They were both quality.
If he ends up as good as the last Villareal B team player we signed, he’ll do for me. if he does the business and leaves in 3 seasons for £20 million, he’ll be a great signing.
Shall we have a sweep stake to see how long before the web critics pan him?And the alternative is what? If we signed Jason Roberts as well, or someone else, that would be absolutely fantastic. Biggest scare for me is an offer “too good to turn down” coming in for one of our main players, this week.

no players will be leaving in this window (whelans words) well lets wait and see if he is good to his words or not ;)I hope he is true to his word.

im ok pal might have a ride down tomoz if your in have a chat n catch up? b after dinner m8 okThere’s no pleasing some people. Complain that we don’t spend enough, and then when we do spend £7million, they complain it’s too much of a risk.
I have a feeling about this lad, I don’t think Bobby or Whelan would have spent a record fee if they weren’t sure of his ability. You can bet he’s technically sound coming out of the spanish league, so he’ll fit into Bobby’s system perfectly. I hope he’s physically good aswell.
Looking forward to seeing him play.
