          Another man with strong Maribor links is their new manager Ante Simundza who had three playing spells with the club (1991-96, 1997 and 1999-00) and made over 200 appearances, scoring 87 goals.

          Simundza became Head Coach on Monday, but has experience of coaching at the club when he was assistant from 2008 to 2011.

            Worst time to play a team?

            #121769

            I expect Coyle to save his best players to play Blackburn on Sunday. So I think there will be another makeshift team.

            The result doesn’t really matter – just enjoy the occasion.

            Coyle has announced his squad;

            Latics boss Owen Coyle expects to make a couple of changes to the side beaten by Watford at the weekend but not as many as the seven players he brought in for their first European game against Zulte Waregem a fortnight ago.

            Shaun Maloney (back) and strikers Grant Holt (knee) and Marc-Antoine Fortune (hamstring) remain sidelined while full-back Stephen Crainey has a neck problem.

            Wigan team (from): Carson, Nicholls, Shotton, Rogne, Boyce, Garcia, Perch, Barnett, Buxton, McCann, Watson, Gomez, McManaman, McArthur, Espinoza, Powell, Beausejour, McClean, Dicko.

            Jean Beausejour played for Birmingham City in their home and away wins against Maribor in the Europa League in 2011/12.

            Birmingham beat Arsenal in the 2011 League Cup final, but were relegated at the end of the season. Birmingham therefore played in the Europa League as a Championship team. Beausejour didn’t start in the final, but came on as a substitute.
