We have now finalised all the travel details for a day return trip to watch Wigan Athletic take on Maribor in Slovenia on 12th December 2013. The cost is £285 per seat, including transfers to and from the airport in Maribor.

We will also provide return coach travel between Wigan and Manchester airport for an additional charge of £10 pp.

The flight will be early morning (approx. 6am) direct to Maribor and should take approx. 3 hours, our return flight will be as soon as possible after the game and is due back in Manchester at approx. midnight on the same evening.

There will be limited seat availability on this flight and will be sold on a first come first served Basis.

The travel agent has agreed at our request, to stagger the cost into 3 separate payments between now and 12th November.

I originally tried to keep this trip to Slovenia in house, using all the people who operate independent coaches to WAFC away games and drawing on their knowledge and years of experience getting us fans to and from games at the lowest possible cost, but in this case we will are not be able to go down that same route, because of legislation it proved impossible to do on our own and we have to use an ATOL bonded tour operator, fortunately one of our contacts, ‘standishwalker’ of Cockney Latic fame works in a similar field, and he introduced me to this company:-

    Sports Options.

    http://www.sportoptions.com/Wigan-in-Europe/index.asp

I have looked at three similar companies providing the service we need and none have come close in terms of attention to detail and cost to even contemplate going elsewhere, we think Sports Options best suits the needs of our trip.

Miles Saward the MD of Sports Options has agreed to personally handle our trip as we are ‘virgins’ in European football travel terms, both him and members of his staff intend to accompany us on the trip to guide us through all its various stages, they will also be on hand to help with all your general enquires and take you through the booking process.

Any other issues or worries you may have, or any further information including booking your coach transport from Wigan to Manchester Airport and back, which I am handling, please contact me at wiganineurope@hotmail.co.uk and I will help you all I can, if you need to talk about any part of this trip mail me your phone number and I will call you back.

Lets make this another great night in our proud ground breaking history.

    Regards

    LMB

Cheers LMB…top man for arranging it.

Just booked flight…lets hope we can get the tickets ok lol

    What’s the airline/aircraft anyone know?

    #121100

Sorry I have only just noticed your reply to my original post, at the moment the airline we are looking to use is Monarch, although dependant on numbers booking this could change, either way it will be more than likely be one of the package tour operators like Monarch who usually have planes available outside the main package holiday seasons.

Any idea how many of us have booked on this trip?

Will we be ok for match tickets….

Saw something on the club website for the Bruges trip saying tickets were only on sale to those who could prove travel arrangements

match ticket availability is the big question to all those who have already booked – especially those without season tickets like my good self!!!

Proving travel arrangements was (or so I’ve heard) a request from the Belgian police & not something Latics put in place so whether you’ll have to do it for Maribor or not I don’t know – although from people I know who went under their own steam it was just a case of “How are you getting there? What time flight/ferry/chunnel? What’s the name of your hotel? When are you staying from & till?” & they weren’t asking for proof as such so you could have told them any old rubbish

    Leylandlatic,

I have deliberately not responded to your questions for reasons that will become apparent in a moment.

The range of the aircraft we need to use to get us there non stop has to be a certain size ie a 30 seat commuter plane would not get us the 1000 or so miles to Maribor. We had to reach a minimum number of sales before we could actually run this flight, on Thursday last week we had exceeded that number, so any doubts that we would not be flying and having to give those already booked their money back have gone.
By yesterday close to 100 have either paid in full or paid the £95 deposit, we also have about 20 who have paid myself and Gekko a smaller deposit to secure their place, which will be paid to Sports Options when we have their full payment.

The second thing we had been questioned about and a major issue as far as the flight sales are concerned are the availability of tickets, we know some are holding back until ticket details are known.

Initially it was believed that we would only have a restricted amount of tickets about 600-650, and in our discussions with WAFC they advised caution in us taking bookings before we knew the numbers we would receive. Earlier today we have been told (not yet confirmed officially) that tickets on sale to Wigan Athletic fans will not be a problem and we will have all we need.

So updating the flight details, the maximum size charter aircraft available to us for the flight to Maribor will be an Airbus carrying 178 passengers, it is unlikely we will be able to increase the size of this plane, also Maribor Airport only have parking facilities for two planes, the Club organised players/officials/fans charter flight and ours, meaning there will not be another Aircraft making the trip irrespective of demand.

Based on bookings to date it looks like there is only about 50 seats left.

    Cheers for that LMB.

Looks like we’re on then…roll on 12/12/13 :woohoo:

I paid the deposit just in case. What you’ve said about needing the minimum numbers explains why it hadn’t gone through on my last statement.

Sounds a bit of a noddy airport….don’t count on there being a duty free shop

      Well said LMB

This could be one hell of an occasion as we progress to the next stage of the competition

Just to let you know 124 confirmed bookings at close of business Friday (4th), today there have been a number of booking reference payment requests, which allows payment via people own online or high street branch bank.

I have also been told the maximum seats available is actually 174(not 178) meaning we have less than 50 to sell.

quick question?? if we pick anything up on the day in Maribor would we be able to leave them on the coach at the ground? i.e cigs/booze at the zulte game the coaches were locked and no one in sight had to rely on the old leave it in a bush method. which did work but was a bit wet to say the least :)

You wouldn’t be able to buy booze as you’re on a day trip and can’t take it onboard the aircraft with you….

I think some eyes are going to be opened when these guys get on a ‘day trip’ like this. It is nothing like a package holiday guys.

They’ll hate it when they’re ushered onto the plane on the way back with cattle-prods ;)
