La Liga club Athletic Bilbao want Roberto Martinez as their new boss and if the Spanish outfit cannot land the Wigan manager they will turn their attention to out-of-work Mark Hughes, who recently resigned as Fulham boss.
I’ve no idea whether the story is true or not or whether Bobby would want to go if they did want him but hasn’t he turned them down once before to stay with Latics??
I seem to remember that at the end of his original (playing) deal with Latics that he turned down the offer of a new contract as he said the club wanted him to take a pay cut (the club said it wasn’t a pay cut but that his new deal didn’t include a signing on fee).
Anyway one of the clubs who offered him a deal was Athletic Bilbao & it was reported that that was where he was going only for him to turn up at Latics for pre-season training & sign a new deal. John Deehan said somet along the lines of “I thought he’d left & gone to Athletic Bilbao” which probably says alot about his managementWhether Bobby ever regretted turning them down I don’t know but I’m pretty sure that Athletic Bilbao almost won the league that year.

Strange how everyone is now reffering to our manager as Bobby and also are wanting him to stay. A few weeks ago he was martinez(or worse)and people were telling him to feck off(or worse).

Is that a drift net?I know, I know I was wrong about his tactics, which came good in the end but caused me a lot of despair, anxiety and increased alcohol consumption during the months of torment. I suppose in the end I had a perverse kind of masochism in which I enjoyed the last two games, which resulted in joyous hangovers at work on two consecutive Mondays.
This goes to show why he earns £1m a year whilst I struggle along as an IT gimp. WTF do I know after watching and playing football for forty odd years?.
I actually hope he stays but Sky have him as 15/8 as the next Villa manager. Is he actually talking to them or is it bs?.
