Give Wigan their dues
As a fan of a ‘smaller’ club in the Premier League, I am well aware of the fact that the Wigans of this world never beat the big teams. No, when the big teams occasionally lose to the likes of Wigan, it is always of their own doing.
Well Wigan didn’t beat Chelsea on Saturday but they were fully deserving of the point they did pick up. Latics have found another gear in recent weeks and impressed again against Andre Villas-Boas’ side but all the talk, predictably, has been of how Chelsea did not turn up after their superb win over Manchester City.
Has anyone ever considered that Wigan may have played a part in that? Clearly Chelsea have a stronger team but perhaps Roberto Martinez got his tactics so right to the extent that Chelsea weren’t able to impose themselves, that Chelsea were made to look poor by a good Wigan performance.
Nobody else will say it so I will: Well done Wigan on a fantastic performance, let’s hope you can keep it up.
