Wigan Athletic forward Marlon King could be heading to Championship club Newcastle United for the rest of the season on loan according to reports in the media.
King quite obviously doesn`t feature in the plans of Latics boss Roberto Martinez and a season in the Newcastle attack rather than the Wigan reserves must be more appealing to him even though during the summer he claimed he wouldn`t go on loan again after spending the whole of last season at first Hull City and then Middlesbrough.
Newcastle have switched their attention to King following an injury to young Everton striker James Vaughan who they had lined up last week and representatives of the club have been in touch with the Latics to get the ball rolling.
Championship clubs are allowed to make loan signings outside the transfer window so that isn`t a problem it could just be down to whether Marlon fancies the year up in Newcastle or kicking his heals around Christopher Park.
From a Latics point of view this will leave the club with just two recognised first team strikers, Hugo Rodallega and Jason Scotland, maybe we are looking at some unattached players to bring one in to bolster the options upfront, I hope so.
4 September 2009 at 1:22 pm #7994As bad as King is, it would be total dereliction of duty to leave us with just 2 recognized strikers.
4 September 2009 at 1:48 pm #8001we only use one upfront so we have 1 and 1 spare…
4 September 2009 at 1:52 pm #8004Oh, well that’s alright then. Off you pop then, Marlon.
4 September 2009 at 1:57 pm #8006good ridance to, he is a disaster. We have some young kids who could get a run and would be ahead of Marlon in the pecking order.
Why keep players in the reserves on big money when you can have a percentage paid for getting him out?
4 September 2009 at 2:05 pm #8008We have some young kids who could get a run and would be ahead of Marlon in the pecking order.Clearly not, or they would be on the bench ahead of him, wouldn’t they?
4 September 2009 at 2:09 pm #8009You don’t seriously think we’d leave ourselves with just 2 recognised strikers do you ?
Apparently Jonesy has been banging em in during training !!! :P
4 September 2009 at 2:13 pm #8010As bad as King is, it would be total dereliction of duty to leave us with just 2 recognized strikers.Agree, but perhaps Martinez views Kapo as an alternative (when he’s fit) and possibly Koumas.
Maybe Scharner has now decided he’s actually striker.

But I suppose it has to be seen to be justified considering he’s on £38k per week. (head shaking uncontrollably as I type….!)4 September 2009 at 4:24 pm #8018As bad as King is, it would be total dereliction of duty to leave us with just 2 recognized strikers.so mr 1% you actually class jason scotland as a regogmised striker ?
methinks you are in the 99% bracket.4 September 2009 at 5:14 pm #8022As bad as King is, it would be total dereliction of duty to leave us with just 2 recognized strikers.

methinks you are in the 99% bracket.[/quote]Scotland is a ‘recognised’ striker. He might not be recognised in the Premier League, but he is a striker – something we are desperately short of.
I’d still rather play Scotland than King, and dare I say it, even Kapo.

2nd, yes, I think he is recognised as a striker, albeit in many people’s opinion, not a very good one. I think 20-odd goals in a championship side gives you the right to call yourself a striker.
I might post something again later tonight if you feel the need to stalk and pull me to pieces again
4 September 2009 at 8:21 pm #8031Why dont we just let the entire team go and have done with it?
