I get behind my team more than most, I just want some real answers from him about subjects such as some Wigan fans wanting him out. I want him to stay.
When the question was asked last week he said:
“I understand the frustrations that are felt by fans, beleive me I feel them as well, but I would much rather those frustrations be given at me rather than the players.
Mentally it hurts players when they are booed and jeered, I much rather it be put at me.
I said it would take two seasons and three transfer windows to have the foundations set for Wigan Athletic to start challenging for that tenth place or higher in the league instead of just surviving and I think I have the team to do that now.
It has been hard changing Latics both on and off the field, but to stay away from the relegation battles every year we had to make these changes and the playing style would not just happen overnight.
The signs and the chants obviously affect me, but I have a job to do and and getting the 4 winsd and 2 draws that will keep us up is my concern now, get behind the players and we will be OK.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
15 February 2011 at 3:53 pm #59553Maybe they should ask him, “Wigan Athletic have some of the worst supporters in the country, how do you put up with their none-stop moaning?”
We have possibly the BEST supporters in the United Kingdom, certainly better than all in the Premier League.

Sephton, please stop talking utter, utter gash :angry-banghead:15 February 2011 at 3:55 pm #59554Anonymous

15 February 2011 at 4:17 pm #59555glad uv’e changed your tune, though i must admit after the aston villa game i didn’t give us a cat in hell’s chance of staying up. Now, i think we will probably still go down, though I will say we have good chance of staying up. You remind me a bit of my dad he has been having a hump about wigan for awhile now.
That book by ed jones is it northern soul? my brother read that said it was a brilliant read. I wasn’t there for the really bad days of 1995 era, as I was four years old. Started going when me dad started, which was probly around 97/98 though i was too young to really remember anything.
Was really good reading that book though as it really puts into perspective how far we have actually come and make’s you remember that we are STILL little wigan taking the pi$$
COME ON LATICSYeah mate, Northern Soul.
Been going since ’86, so obviously seen big changes in that time. 92-95 were hard times, and coincidentally, the arrival of Roberto Martinez, along with Diaz and Seba, was really the start of things. Graham Barrow steadied the ship, and John Deehan came in and took us on. We won the third division in 1997 and we were on teh way up. Granted, we stalled a bit on the way, but good times were around the corner. Funnily enough, John Deehan got slated at times, for his tactics and whatever…..and he took us to a league title!
And take things recently….Moyes at Everton getting slated by their fans….and I’ve heard some negative comments aimed at Dalglish after Saturday. They really expected to turn us over. Even Fergusdon’s had stick in recent seasons.
Managers always have had stick, no matter how good, or how bad. But i think the saturation coverage of the media just intensifies things, these days. As does the desire for overnight success. Look at West Brom with Di Matteo? In his time there, did he do a good or bad job, getting them promoted, and building a useful side? I’d say he did a decent job. Yet their chairman has panicked and got shut of him after a poor run. Ridiculous. And as for Blackburn….well, they’ve got owners now who don’t really understand the game. The ridiculous talk of them, signing Ronaldinho and Beckham showed that. They got shut of an experienced manager and replaced him with a coach. Crazy times in football. Yet arguably the two best sides in the Premiership have managers who have been there for years. Patience. If United had panicked in 1989, like they very nearly did, and the word was, if they lost the cup match at Forest, Ferguson was out. They won, 1-0, went on to win the cup, and never looked back. How different could things have been, but for that win?Crazy game, football. That’s why we love it. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

indeed very crazy game. Wonder where we’d be if jewell hadn’t resigned? Or where liverpool would be if they hadn’t sacked hodgson :D :D

This is a very bold statement, would you be so kind as to perhaps list a few categories under which you would consider the BEST supporters would fall under & provide some examples as to why we have the BEST supporters in order to verify what youve just said
Regards

15 February 2011 at 6:26 pm #59565I’ll start of by saying the population of Wigan compared with the home attendance is the best in the Premier League.
There’s a rugby club in the town, Orrel Rugby Union. Oh, and Wigan Warriors. :?
We are by far the newest club in the Football League and only 2/3 generations have past since we began life in the old 3rd divison – and were ammited to the football league.
With so many well established clubs already in the North West, people in the town already have a club to support unless (like griff) you change team … which not many will do.
We aren’t the most attreactive team to support with us being smashed 9-1, 4-0, 6-0, 4-0, 5-0, 3-0, 8-0, 4-0, 5-0, 4-1 etc….. all under Roberto Martinez. Lets not forget being knocked out the cup by Notts County last season.
Unemployment is hitting the town hard and with so many pubs providing Latics games live it’s hard for the club to get them filling the seats. Also, WishFM have all home and away games on their station.
People that support the Rugby Club 1st off are likely to support a club like Man Utd, Liverpool or Everton because loyalty to both Wigan clubs is hard to come by.
Away support at certain grounds have sparked a bit of talk this season … including Everton (where we took more than Bolton) and Spurs (which we weren’t far off Bolton).
The ‘joy’ of Prem football is fading away and many hardcore fans are starting to drop off waiting for the club to be relegated … then starting following us again.
Ok, there’s my points … i’m ready to be ridiculed. :teasing-knob:
P.S – We took about 400 fans to Arsenal with some not being allowed tickets because the away end was ‘sold out’ Only a few Arsenal fans were in the away area too ….

Have to say, you’ve left yourself wide open, saying we are the newest club in the Football League. Actually, I think that title belongs to STEVENAGE.
