:o :o
Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez insists Jason Scotland can score at Premiership level.
Having been prolific over the last two seasons in League One and the Championship Scotland has failed to live up to expectations in the top flight, but Martinez is still backing the Trinidad & Tobago striker to find his feet at the highest level.
“He is a goalscorer and that is in his nature,” Martinez said.
“So when he gets into those situations and he’s not himself, we need to make sure we change that feeling.
“But Jason is a strong character and he has been working really hard. All we need is to turn that corner quickly, and I’m sure the moment that he scores that first Premier League goal he will go into a run.
“It is important that in our play, we help Jason to get into those positions as many times as we can.”
1 February 2010 at 11:36 am #20798totally agree!!
There is no difference in being one on one with a premiership keeper or a championship or non league keeper. The fact is, he is creating chances at this level, but going through a torrid time on hitting the onion bag. That doesn’t necessarily make him a bad player or prove he is out of his depth.
There are many examples of this type of situation over the years, going back to Gary Birtles when he joined Man U and more recently peter Crouch when he joined Liverpool.
If he wasn’t linking up or creating anything I’d be worried but he is and looks to be getting better each game. He is 30 years old and is playing at the top level for the first time, in a team thats finding its feet having changed considerably both in personnel and tactically.Whether he makes it at this level will depend on a number of factors including at some point having a big slice of luck, which I hope the lad has for the rest of the season.
JS IS A WIGAN ATHLETIC PLAYER!! :)From Matlock to ManU

what utter shite. massive difference. do you want me to make a list.?
1 February 2010 at 9:27 pm #20863no i’ll do it for you..
1) There’s no difference.
The goals are the same size, the keepers are the same size and all try to make themselves big. I’ve seen Scotland score on numerous occasions when one on one with the keeper, i’ve seen him turn defenders and shoot in the bottom corner etc etc. The player is having a mixture ofr trying to hard and having no luck. If you want to crucify him for that, then good on you, i would sooner get behind him and hope that he can get his first prem goal which might be the first of many for the guy.

What a journey!1 February 2010 at 9:35 pm #20866Now we have had a successful transfer window and signed some serious talent as well as keeping hold of our own, isn’t it time to wipe the slate clean?
Jason Scotland may have missed a few, but hopefully with Moses on the left, Charles on the right and a possible partner with him up front, things may just turn around.
We have now had the last throw of the dice in the transfer window, so now our future is down to what weve got and us supporting the team.
The next home game, lets chant every players name and do our bit in ensuring we stay up. If Jason Scotland is short of confidence, lets drive the fear out of him and make him feel wanted.
