I would love your opinions on this, do you think we’ve progressed as far as we can or can we grow even more?
Wigan depend upon the sale of bright, young players. Other players will continue to move at the end of their contracts, unless increased television income allows Wigan to tempt them to stay.
Every new purchase is a gamble, and Wigan can’t afford any mistakes when they buy a replacement. The purchase of Boselli has been very damaging, though they seem to have overcome it now.
The academy should deliver new players, but even if it is successful, it’s likely to produce more than one every other season. And then it may not be in the position you need.
Wigan can climb to a more comfortable position – a few more points would make an enormous difference. But life in the Premier League will never be easy, and any unexpected problem – a serious injury, say – would put them in jeopardy.
