change his mind when he realises that Roberto will lose him millions if he takes the club down :woohoo: !
30 October 2011 at 12:00 pm #73026We need to go down at some point, surely most people understand that. Its a case of when and how.
I suspect Chairman Dave doesnt care about the money anymore.
30 October 2011 at 1:45 pm #73038nearly choked on my coffee reading the first bit

yep, whelans silence is deafening, i think its obvious hes lost intrest, the whelan of 4-5 yrs ago, would have acted by now, hes always got the parachute payments
30 October 2011 at 3:34 pm #73054Perhaps HE personally is losing money. Perhaps he has been putting loads of money in to the club rather than pocketing all the transfer fees as some on here would have you believe.

30 October 2011 at 4:56 pm #73063What has happened to the NZogbia transfer money???????????????
30 October 2011 at 5:05 pm #73065What do you think has happened to it?
30 October 2011 at 5:27 pm #73069Just heard that whelan went into changing room and thanked Martinez for his time and that Martinez is resigning tomorrow.
30 October 2011 at 6:33 pm #73071If only it is true,he’s still full of himself on ‘News now’he’s, now blaiming…..Wait for it…… OCTOBER.
30 October 2011 at 8:16 pm #73075Perhaps this explains where the transfer money etc goes:
Disclaimer and word of explanation:
By the way, I was just looking at the Daily Mail for research purposes, having once seen someone reading it when I was much younger. I came across the site while browsing the internet, I don’t normally read it, and I certainly have no copies saved on my hard drive.30 October 2011 at 8:30 pm #73077Mr Whelan has painted himself into a corner i feel with his comments. How can he say to the world that “the job is Roberto,s for however long he wants it” then again last season at Stoke he said “even if we go down Roberto will still be the manager” then sack the guy? Simple, he cannot and save face. Im a huge fan of Mr Whelan but he is blinkered when it comes to Roberto,s management skills and simply wont have anything bad said about him. In his time here Mr Whelan has helped to pull off one of footballs greatest miracles in getting Wigan Athletic into the big time.He has not made too many mistakes along the way but the one he is making now will be a total disaster for this club and will undo the wonderful work he himself has done.He isnt even doing Roberto any favours really cos his credibility is being eroded with each defeat.Who will want him as manager if this goes on for too much longer? Sorry guys but we are in a real bad position here and im really afraid that change will not be coming soon unless both owner and manager can somehow come out of this with reputations still intact.

30 October 2011 at 8:45 pm #73078Total disaster??? What, financially viable and perhaps relegated to the second tier of one of the biggest and best leagues in the world. Oh aye, complete catastrophe that would be.
There is a very real possibility that the reason that Roberto has a “job for life” is because he is doing exactly what Whelan has asked him to, which could be to strip back the wage bill and sort out some of the non-playing football aspects (ie training ground, etc). Maybe staying in the Premier League is not one of Roberto’s primary objectives.
Of course, going down might make it even harder for Whelan to sell the club, so on the face of it seems illogical, but it’s still a possibility.
Just a thought…
30 October 2011 at 9:00 pm #73079On average attendances the Championship os the 11th best attended football league in the world, with an average attendance of 17,388.
The top ten were:
Bundesliga 42,101 Premier League 35,283 La Liga 29,128 Primera Division Mexico 26,722 Serie A 24,031 Primera Division Argentina 19,843 La Ligue 19,650 Eredivisie 19,116 J-League 18,428 MLS 17,872 Hardly the greatest financial catastrophe!
By the way – you can compare a whole variety of sports here ;)

30 October 2011 at 9:18 pm #73081Griff, when you read the posts on here for many fans it will be a total disaster as many of our younger fans have only seen top flight football. From a personal point being a lifelong fan of 40odd year your spot on. The championship is still a hell of a level for us to be at and i have said on here many times our finances will not see us sustain Premiership football.Mr Whelan has played an enormous part in me being on an amazing footballing journey which not too many fans will witness.I will not slag him off like some on here coz i know how bad it was in the really dark days and how close we came to folding. Its probably because he is such a brilliant businessman that he keeps a tight rein on finances which is why he constantly gets castagated on here. But as a fan who didnt want Bobby in the first place simply becaused i idolised him as a player and was afraid this would happen.I just wished Mr Whelan would have picked someone else.I hate feeling like this and its selfish of me coz ive seen so much success over the years and the club dont deserve all this negativity.
