Vennegoor of Hesselink would have been a great signing for us imo.
Our lack of firepower and midfield bite is what scares me most about this season.

Couldn’t afford to have his name put on a shirt though.

COULD the staff in the shop or JJB actually SPELL that correctly?
They mis-spelt ‘De Zeeuw’ on mine, back in 2000! Think they printed ‘De Zeuw’. Didn’t know until some bloke tapped me on the back at the match!
This Modeste M’Bamé fella. Is it me, or has a footballer never sounded like a toilet roll as much?
7 September 2009 at 7:01 pm #8227I suppose any new signing is good, but after the amount of new signings weve made i think we could do with trying to keep to the same 11. We want to increase team spirit and the players need confidence. The team that beat Villa should be given time, we have already seen what its capable of.
Villa we were great and we gave UTD 45 mins and were unlucky not to score. We were unlucky at Everton and against Wolves, it was the same as when we were promoted. How many teams did we shock?
We thought we should have beaten Wolves easily, just shows how far we have come.9 September 2009 at 3:14 pm #8390Much as I hate Alan Sugar, his description of the “Carlos Kickaball” types that still populate our Prem League came to mind for me with this news. We’re ending up with a team of passing foreign journeymen. Doesn’t fill me with much joy, and doesn’t create much of a bond between fans and team.
Wouldn’t it be better to be known as a team that brings a few young local lads through (might help with the gates if there was more local identity) and gives some of the better talent from down the divisions a go. Lets not be flooded by foreign mercenaries.
Maybe I’m being unrealistic in the era of academies signing up lads before they’re out of nappies, but in the past we managed to produce top level players – Atherton, Newell, Quinn etc. Why can’t we do that now, or at least give some other young English lads a chance from down the divisions. I know people are going to say Cotterill, Folan, Watson etc weren’t up to it, but I don’t reckon any of them were given long enough by us to settle into playing at a higher level.
15 September 2009 at 6:51 pm #8795so anyone know what the story is with this M’Bami fella… has he signed or been told to f off..

I agree totally. We will soon have a completely foreign team, which I am totally against. It’s about time we got our house in order.
We’ll have to rethink the policy with this ‘home grown’ players rule.15 September 2009 at 7:18 pm #8805I agree totally. We will soon have a completely foreign team, which I am totally against. It’s about time we got our house in order.
We’ll have to rethink the policy with this ‘home grown’ players rule. Not going to be possible with the new ruling for next season, how many players are some teams going to have to shed next season????
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Is it just me, or does this ruling give an advantage to the bigger clubs, who can afford to go for this so called ‘home-grown’ talent? I mean it’s alright saying ‘home grown’, but clubs like United and Liverpool are wanting trophies, so they aren’t going to stick players in who aren’t good enough, just to appease the rule. No. But they can afford to go out and buy the likes of David Bentley, in order to pass muster.
Harder for clubs like us.
