3 September 2013 at 3:12 am #120433Thought we would have signed a striker.
I think we would if the McCarthy deal had gone through earlier. Blackburn would have snatched that £13m if we had been a bit sharper.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!3 September 2013 at 3:14 am #120434I like the money we got, I hate the fact we have absolutely zero time to use it on a striker.
That money could have been the difference between promotion.
3 September 2013 at 3:17 am #120436I was under the impression that he has gone on a one year loan !
3 September 2013 at 3:17 am #120438Where are the three or four players Coyle said we would be signing and the fans would be happy with :(
3 September 2013 at 3:28 am #120440Now its shut the prem teams can only use their permitted 25 squad players so just watch and see how many decent players come up for grabs. Our window reopens next week for emergency loan players so many of the said players will move into the Championship.Hopefully a striker may find his way here.
3 September 2013 at 3:39 am #120442For those a little damp behind the ears:
Fallaini joins United
Everton get confirmation of their money, so they up their offer for McCarthy
Wigan accept the offer and McCarthy signs for Everton
Hence the lateness of the deals
Wigan have already signed Powell on loan in anticipation of McCarthy going
Jordan Rhodes was never leaving Blackburn for another Championship side – as stated by the Blackburn CEO
Everton were linked with a deal for Rhodes to try to hurry Wigan up on the McCarthy deal
Either that or as usual everyone at Wigan is sat on their arse wondering what this transfer window thing is…

Or maybe it’s being used to keep paying PL type wages to players when the PL money dries up? A factor in our favour when looking for promotion, compared to other clubs.

3 September 2013 at 12:32 pm #120458McCarthy will be missed on the pitch, he’s the type of player who does the chasing and harassing that goes mostly unnoticed unlike the Maloney and McManaman’s trickery.
My biggest fear is McCann will be Coyle’s choice to fill McCarthy’s boots not Powell.
3 September 2013 at 1:45 pm #120472If it is £13m its very good business for us. To be blunt I’ve never rated McCarthy, especially after one of my Scottish friends slated him for playing for Ireland. You rate footballers based on your friend’s politics?
I am now finally confident in declaring Leyland and its surrounds a wasteland of footballing knowledge.
3 September 2013 at 1:52 pm #120474I am confident that Horc and Alasdair know more about WAFC and it’s history than you do Griff. They are WAFC fans personified ! Not sure who this Leylandlatic4ever is though, he aint one of our lot !

That was my concern at first, but mcarthur could fill that role.

Not sure who this Leylandlatic4ever is though, he aint one of our lot !;) Fair enough. I can’t even remember what I was doing last week. That said, I never said they didn’t know about WAFC. I was talking our rogue Leylander’s knowledge of football. I know loads about The Sopranos but I’m no gangster.
Surely, Leyland must be a non-footy zone though, it’s near Preston.

Hopefully, I think Powell is a bit more forward/attack minded than those two, I think.
Must admit I have been very disappointed with McCann thus far.
3 September 2013 at 3:02 pm #120493Coyle can still choose his midfield from;
McClean McCann McArthur McManaman
Espinoza Watson Gomez Maloney
Beausejour Fyvie Powell RedmondWe can build a good team from these, surely.
But can we have Kone back, please?
