was the thing that your son played there free?. fair dues if that’s the case but they have had things like this at avenham park in Preston in the past. the heineken music festival were oasis, inspiral carpets, the stranglers, the Christians and loads off others played who I can’t remember as it was 16 years ago over 3 nights and they were free. you would think they would have had some popular indie/ rock band on at haigh hall but they haven’t?. let me guess rock FM are something to do with it. there is nothing on that line up for a lot of people. who from Wigan is going to pay 33 pounds to see the welsh bird singing covers?. i can guess that a lot of the people who attend will not be from Wigan. ?

edit.. ronan keating is middle of the road rubbish.
each to there own though. I am guessing you have already purchased your ticket for the keating gig :P

Apart from Oaisis the others you’ve mentioned are that popular, ask anyone on here to remember 3 songs of theirs without googling and they’d be struggling. As for the rest of the bands taking part on that monster event, you can’t even remember who they were.

Do you not realise what sponsorship is? The heineken festival was sponsored by guess who……..?
Good luck to these venues for getting that kind of sponsorship were they don’t have to charge to get in, its hard to find companies who’ll do that these days. Heineken are probably closing places down and losing jobs hand over fist now wishing they had the thousands paid to the Gallaghers and co. at the time.

Yes the Haigh festival is free and costs a bit of money to set up. Over 35 thousand attended over the day last year and this year will probably be the same.

As for not trying pleasing everybody, a quirky young energetic boy band, followed by a hip hop band, followed by a soul diva, followed by a opera singer, followed by a girl band followed by a ex boy band and middle of the road favourite, is a bloody good attempt.

PS No I will not be watching Ronan Keating, even though its not now the 30 odd quid you’ve quoted to watch him and the rest of the acts, its actually just half that!!. Just check out the 2 for 1 specials that are now on.
By the way, the jazz festival starts next week if you fancy a bit of that stuff

This thread needs moving to the music forum and to the original poster McFly were due on stage at 9:30pm and have now probably fecked off to wence they come, with a couple of fit wigan wenches on each arm.

2 for 1 now is it? what does that tell you?. i bet the concerts are no were near selling out.

        #39195

its worth 33 quid of anyones money just to see miss dixons legs –

the tickets mustn’t have been selling well as a number of wigan companies have been offered BOGOF on tickets for every night.

my daughter and her mate are going to watch n-dubz/dixon for 13.50 each

here are the line ups for the heineken music festival 1994 which played in 6 cities http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heineken_Music_Festival 20000 attended every night at preston
the year after the verve played at avenham park. it went down hill after a few years because it ended up with a line up of bands similar to what is on at haigh hall. if you was 12 it was great but who in there 20,s,30.s wanted to see the likes of peter andre?. if you did at least you did not after pay, I am sure someone as sponsored this haigh hall thing up to a point. the problem I can see is the line up of acts is all wrong. this is been proved now by ticket prices been halved. I think the organizers are going to have to up there game next year if they want this to carry on.

Wiganer’s poorly supporting events held in the town is not a new phenomenon.

I have a newspaper cutting, somewhere, from the Wigan Observer, in March, 1958, which reports on Buddy Holly & The Cricket’s appearance at the Ritz Cinema. It includes the line “…proof that Wiganer’s WILL support this type of event…”

So even then, back in 1958, doubt must of been cast about whether people would bother to attend this kind of event. (For the response to be given, like that)

It’s just the way things are, with Wiganers. Maybe it dates back to when people had to be more frugal? I don’t know. We know only too well, that the local populace struggle to get off their backsides, for Latics games. It’s just the mentality, I think.

I bet somewhere, back in time, people were moaning about paying 6d to go and watch “That gap-toothed, grinning, idiot” (George Formby)

Incidentally, I’d happily pay that kind of money to watch the stunningly beautiful Miss Jenkins. And like someone else says, they HAVE put a mixture of acts on, to suit different tastes.

No idea, but i’ve just heard a gang of hoodies outside the shops near the fingerpost in Aspull, saying they are going up to the hall tonight in numbers “bike stealing”.
Apparently there are some idiots daft enough to go up there on two wheels and are easy prey for this professional gang from moss side.

            :o ;)

Its a good job that daft idiot took a big thick chain with him and chained them all together and that was before i read about the gang from Moss Side going up.

Just got in had to leave before N-Dubz came on but saw all the Alesha Dixon set there was less there tonight than last night.

WEP website said there were only 2500-3000 there last night too :(

Schools are even giving away tickets for free.

None of them who are on this week are my thing but if thats all that are turning up then i cant see any more gigs by major artists in Wigan any time soon, which is a shame.
