Refused to speak to us.
Is it just me who thinks we should have contacted the player before making a bid to save wasting our time?
Him refusing to speak to us is all over the internet.

So what? Who says we actually did try to speak to him? Don’t believe everything you see/hear on TV/papers/internet, especially today, of all days.
31 January 2013 at 2:18 pm #101916If it’s not true there’s an almighty lot of gossip about such a small club like us on basically all sports internet pages and radio stations.
31 January 2013 at 2:27 pm #101921Yes there is, but is entirely possible that the lad just changed his mind at the last minute.
One thing I will tell you for certain is that the club would not have let anything go public without having had some encouragment that it was a go-er.
And officially, you cannot talk to the player before you have a formal bid accepted by his club. So there ;)

31 January 2013 at 4:18 pm #101933So you don’t believe most if not all clubs do this?
I don’t know where the truth lies with McGeady but Martinez has told BBC the deal wouldn’t get done by the deadline due to him being in Russia. Maybe a cover up but either way we need to look elsewhere as he’s obviously a no go.
31 January 2013 at 4:33 pm #101934So you don’t believe most if not all clubs do this?No I dont.
A few bad eggs have been caught at it in the past and a few probably got away with it.
But I believe most clubs conduct their business in an ethical fashion.
Do you think 9/11 was a conspiracy?

I genuinely do, yes. B)
31 January 2013 at 4:41 pm #101936One thing i love about Roberto Martinez – is the fact he will not be drawn into any negative press regarding Wigan Athletic.
It may well be that we had bid accepted and that he has turned us down – that is allowed alex. However his comments that you have provided us with, are in a clever way his answer.
the deal wouldn’t get done by the deadline due to him being in Russia
The deal wont be done by deadline – possibly true.
The player is in Russia. Both factually correct.

Word up James.
What is the reasoning behind your theory?

Let it go Alex, don’t let it tear you up ;)
31 January 2013 at 4:45 pm #101940I’d say 80-90 percent of deals done nowadays have contract talks sorted before the 2 clubs agree a fee. It’s not tapping up, it’s ensuring the player is interested before the 2 clubs arrange the fee. The parent club obviously gives permission for this based on whether they’re happy to sell the player or not. You’re not telling me you think clubs say I like the look of him, offer his club 5 million, they accept, you contact the player and he says no thank you?
Also, Alan Nixon on twitter is pointing out the fact something must have been discussed with McGeady before we bid for him so not to panic over the transfer and watch this space.
31 January 2013 at 4:49 pm #101941alex for my own curiosity, would you give me your interpretation of ‘tapping up a player’?
31 January 2013 at 4:50 pm #101942You’re not telling me you think clubs say I like the look of him, offer his club 5 million, they accept, you contact the player and he says no thank you? That is exactly what I am telling you :silly:
