Well I’m genuinely gobsmacked at that decision but glad for the lad given all the unnecessary hype and hysteria generated by the media.
Maybe the FA felt that way too and decided to send out a message that they decide what action should be taken and not the journos and Sky pundits.
Got to love the article on the sun’s website about it. They twice refer to him as the “Wigan bruiser” and say he is Scottish. Typical lazy journalism when referring to Wigan.
I’m obviously glad that McManaman will not be charged, Under the FA’s rules that is the correct outcome.
However, as the tackle will not be examined, it leaves Newcastle, their fans and the press complaining that McManaman has ‘escaped’ punishment for a ‘wild tackle’.
It will blow over. If San Marino beat England, it will quickly be forgotten by the press.
I don’t think we will see him for a few games now or he may even be put out to pasture for the rest of the season ! RM did once say that the Prem relegation dog fight was no place for the youngsters of his squad ! The lad does need to be reigned in and his nerves handled before he can fulfil his true potential which has never been in doubt in my view ever since seeing him as a little scamp in the reserves about 4 years ago !
