I’m surprised nobody has started a thread yet on this. But, its rumoured we are after bringing back said players on loan for next season.
On one hand, mcmanaman will be a better version of massey & likewise, wildschut – jacobs. Especially at championship level.
Personally, i would welcome mcmanaman back. Wildschut on the other hand – some might say give him a 2nd chance, ie power. But after what he did & said, i wouldn’t touch him with a bargepole. Also, i never thought he cut it at championship level last time round anyroad.
I can’t see it happening, but i personally would have preferred mcclean back.
25 June 2018 at 6:49 pm #169814Personally, if the manager thinks that both would add to or be better than we currently have then I’ll go with his judgement & I don’t care what they’ve done or said before.
My issue with both players is that they only ever produced their best for us in a specialised positions – I suspect that since leaving that they’ve both been played primarily as wingers and that’s why neither have achieved what they’re capable of. Played as part of a flexible & free role front line they’re both good enough (or were)
On top of that, Wildschut blows hot & cold. Did in league 1 & did in the Championship – strangely it was that muppet Joyce that got the best performances out of him in the Championship.
McManaman had a brief purple spell in the top flight relegation season but didn’t do a great deal for us after that as he was either played out of position as an out of out winger by Coyle, or was injured & suspended a lot under Rosler. Even in that purple spell his end product was often found wanting (watch his FA Cup Final performance). His attitude also seemed to stink at times & I’ve heard quite a few stories of his unprofessional attitude towards his fitness & training from people I trustSo i don’t know is the short of it – trust Cook’s judgement but these are 2 players that we possibly know more about their strengths & weaknesses than he may. But yeah, not bothered about the past

26 June 2018 at 1:43 pm #169828Only player I’d look at bringing back, is Lee Evans. I’d test the water with Sheff Utd, definitely.
I’d sign Elder too.
I think we let Waghorn go too easily as well. I think he’d be a good player for Cooks system.
McLean? Nah. Past it. Certainly dont want Mcmamaman or Wildshit back. Good runner, but so was Forrest Hump.

27 June 2018 at 10:39 am #169848Well personally would have Wildshutt and McManaman back way ahead of Bambi on Ice McClean and definitely ahead of Waghorn.
Shows how different folk see things differently. -
