Not good enough any more. Been caught napping on several occasions this season and IMO was at fault for both goals today – (1) nowhere near Tuncay when he picked up the ball for his run and even when he got close made no attempt to slide/stick a leg out; (2) was marking Shawcross in the box and lost him as soon as the whistle was blown to take the corner.
Perhaps taking the captain’s responsibility off his shoulders will help?
Or maybe just find someone quick to challenge/replace him for that right back spot. Until then I’d stick Melchiot on the bench, move Boyce back to RB, and entice Scharn’s back into the CB role by giving him a leadership role to shore up our continually leaky defence.I and a lot more agree with you. But how do we get that across to a Manager who is still virtualy playing the same team that lost 9-1.
To be honest, Martinez changed it around abit and I applaud him for that. He put Zog on the left, Hugo up front. And we looked dangerous. Very unlucky not to win, and I was impressed with Gomez for once. He looked very good. But not as good as Diame. Does he remind anyone else of Essien?
But back to Mario, I agree, he is poor. For their first goal where was he?!? Still, Boyce should have closed down Tuncay quicker. There’s no way he should have been allowed to score from that angle.
Also a tribute to the few Latics fans that actually went. None stop singing for 90 minutes. Amde me proud to be a Wiganer!!
Think he his having a bad season, but feel he his missing valencia coming back and helping him out, but i dont think its helping, trying to play football from the back, because we havnt got the players who can do that in this division,and we are not making it hard for other teams to score against us,
