Portsmouth have completed the signing of midfielder Michael Brown from Wigan for a nominal fee.
Brown, who was in the final year of his contract at Wigan, has agreed a two-year deal with the option of a third at Fratton Park.
The 32-year-old is expected to go straight into Portsmouth’s squad for Sunday’s game with former club Manchester City, live on Sky Sports 1.
Pompey boss Paul Hart was delighted to land the former Tottenham and Sheffield United man.
“Michael’s a player who has shown he can perform at this level,” Hart told the club’s official website.
“He’s very combative and someone who I’ve admired for many years.
“When he was playing at Sheffield United and I was at Nottingham Forest he was a player you didn’t want to come up against.
“He’ll add plenty of steel to our side.”

Like when exactly??
Potential liability – used to shut my eyes every time he went charging in to a tackle – no problem in seeing him go.
28 August 2009 at 9:49 pm #7181No problem with seeing anyone go when they go, I remeber on this board Cattermole not really being that good as soon as we had sold him.

He couldn’t hold down a regular place last season, so he would stand no chance this season.Out of all our midfield players I would put him ahead of Ben Watson only.
28 August 2009 at 10:52 pm #7195Brown legs had gone. Was a average player who did a job nothing more.
Saying that I’m not sure that Thomas and Diame are any better

sounds like a description of gomez as well but brown did a least upset the opposition

Didn’t play last season because we had Cattermole and Palacios who have we got this season?
Our midfield is absolute gash Koumas, Gomez, Watson, Thomas and Diame who are in a new country and will take time to settle in would keep Brownie out?
The wrong side of 30 he may be and yes the legs had gone but I would have picked him before any of the above because at least he gave 100% and seemed to care.
29 August 2009 at 4:47 am #7253Are you drunk ?
30 August 2009 at 1:25 pm #7320Are you drunk ?No just honest.
We play with 5 in midfield when last year we played with 4 yet this year we are so easy to play against it’s frightening. We miss Cattermole badly and although not as good Brownie is the closest we have to that kind of player. Who in our current midfield is going to fight for every ball tackle and pressure the opposition? No one!!!!
Our midfield is rubbish and in my opinion Brownie would have played.
30 August 2009 at 1:41 pm #7321I mentioned in an earlier post that all was not well when he stormed down the tunnel after getting subbed against Wolves ! Now when a player is angry at being subbed what does it tell you….Well as I see it a player angry at being brought off is angry because he wants to play for his team and probably thinks or knows that there were others doing worse than him at the time ! At least both him and Cattermole got stuck in and intimidated the opposition but now we are left with a feeble midfield bereft of the skills required of for Bob’s new tactics ! From what I have seen so far it is like pass the parcel in midfield, only the parcel is laden with high explosives ! PS The back four dont look to comfortable with the ball either !
