Didn’t know he was the gaffer at Shamrock Rovers, Good on you, Top player when first signed
30 September 2011 at 12:03 am #71956Think your on an a different player. He was bloody awful for us from start to finish!
30 September 2011 at 12:11 am #71957Nah, Decent play-maker when he first joined, For the level we were at. He dropped like a stone though for some reason.
30 September 2011 at 12:35 am #71958I’m with you Yosser. I thought he was a decent enough player but for some reason, which I could never fathom, got a lot of undeserved stick.
Nicky Eden was another who to took a lot of unwarranted stick despite being in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2002-2003 season, when we were promoted from the second divison with 100 points.
30 September 2011 at 12:45 am #71960We had a spate of very effective Premiership has been right backs, Nicky Eaden, Carl Bradshaw, Jeff Kenna and Scott Green all pop into the head, A lot of our goals throughout the Jewell era came from the right hand side, Linking up with the Liddell’s and Teale’s.
30 September 2011 at 12:53 am #71962Carl’someone ordered a taxi’ Bradshaw was a decent captain.
Scott ‘dropped as a baby’ green…….
Also remember Colin Greenall being 100% better in his retirement season
30 September 2011 at 2:00 am #71972Michael O’Neil was a good footballer, never likely to be understood by many thick Wiganers.
Jordi Gomez is the modern day Michael O’Neil
30 September 2011 at 2:28 am #71973I remember us playing stoke away and O’Neil got a cut head, can’t remember if it was clash of heads or studs.
I’ve never seen as much blood on a player in such a short time. He was on or around the half way line and we was in the top tier behind the goals, but we could see his whole head and upper body turning red.football wise, thought he had a good left peg and great football brain, but a bit like our Jordi he was a bit on the slow side. :scared-eek:
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!30 September 2011 at 2:44 am #71976Also remember Colin Greenall being 100% better in his retirement seasonWas awesome at Wembley in 99.

yep, as was Geoof Wright, another footballer mis-understood by thick wiginers.

Wasn’t Jeff Kenna a Left Back? Remember him scoring his only goal for us in the 6-1 against Stoke.
Good Ol’ Days!!
Was sad that we didn’t keep him on… He did well for us!
Anybody remember Paul Dalglish getting sent off twice in two games?
or 5’2 Darren Sheridan squaring up to some 6′ odd defender that time?
and didn’t Paul Mitchell get sent off at Wrexham about 2 minutes into his debut?
Fun times!!
Actually, that’s a good one, has anyone got any truly funny memories of watching Latics?

He was a rubbish player, slow, clueless and a waste of wages griff, okay?
You are one wind up ma boy . :clap:30 September 2011 at 9:24 pm #72004Whatever, mate. He was a bit slow, as is Gomez, as was Wright, as Arky pointed out. Doesn’t make them bad footballers, though.
Glenn Hoddle wasn’t the quickest but, oh yeah, he was useless too, wasn’t he?

You are one wind up ma boy . :clap:Must be kidding, The only point i don’t agree with Griff with on this one is that he is the poor man’s Gomez, Just don’t think you can judge two generations of footballer in 3 separate divisions. Understand what he is saying though. We were in the second division and had a very creative player in the centre of the field who created goals. His problem is what Griff is probably getting at is that he was a slow playing midfielder. My gripe with him was that when we had a flowing move going he would hold the ball up in the centre rather than carry on the flow with a quick ball to the wing and by the time he decided to go to the wing the opposition defenders had chance to re-group and break the move down. But saying that, he was a good set piece taker and when he played balls down the centre they were decisive and accurate and usually contributed to goals.
Griff just smack my arse for being presuming.
