I read that article this morning and it’s not an easy read as it p*sses on our parade a bit but he makes some valid points that are hard to argue against.

Can’t argue with some of his statements, but doesn’t every club have it’s glory hunting fans ? Imo we have less than most. But really I don’t give a toss about his opinion, I’m still basking in our major trophy glory and will do for a long time to come irrespective of our league status. So Dennis. ………..do one !!!!!!

His few valid points are totally outweighed by glaring inaccuracies, hearsay and what seems to be prejudice.

He doesn’t even seem to have researched other than reading Wikipedia.

          My favourite bits are:

Where did they get 30,000 supporters from for the cup final?
We didn’t. There were less than 25,000 Wigan fans there. That’s 7,000 more Wigan fans than were on against Spurs.

Their average so far is just over 19,000, which means there are 11 better-attended clubs in the Football League.
There are also 11 biggest and more established clubs in the Football League. What exactly does this prove?

I will get more bleating letters, I know, about how recently they were a non-League team, the rival attractions of nearby Manchester United and Manchester City and the town’s 80,000 population.
For starters, had he also used Google Maps as well as Wikipedia, he’d have seen how close Everton, Liverpool, Bolton, Preston, Blackburn, Burnley and Blackpool are. And if he sat for a second and thought about it, he’d realise an entire town’s population is unlikely to drop their allegiances within thirty years and move to another team en-mass, so far from being ‘bleating’ the letter he receives are probably very valid.

But the borough of Wigan has 300,000 souls
True, but Wigan Borough includes Leigh, Tyldesley, Astley, Atherton, and parts of Skelmersdale. Few residents of these towns (ironically, excluding the poster above) would urinate on Wigan if it was on fire let along support its foootball team.

…there is no law against marketing the club well in surrounding areas.
There’s not, and they’ve tried it. Considering to the West and East we are bordered by St Helens and Bolton, and if you travel a few miles North you get to Preston, the opportunities are limited.

The simple truth is that if a few thousand of the glory-hunters who jumped on the cup bandwagon had bothered to go to Premier League games regularly, Martinez might have been able to attract and pay better players. If the ‘missing’ 6000 fans turned up an paid £30 a ticket per game for all 19 league matches, the clubs would have amassed a huge £3.4 million extra: enough to sign another £2 million pound player and pay his wages. So, not really a truth at all.

Still, temporary fans who do not care enough to head south today had a smashing time at Wembley, didn’t they?
We got berated for taking ‘no fans’ to the Semi, and now we’re ridiculed for taking an extra 7,000 to the Final! All smaller clubs do exactly the same for the final.

In my opinion, they’re the musings of a bitter little man who seems to have an agenda.

mick dennis is a norwich city fan and chairman of their supporters club, and has had many a dig at us in the past probably fueled by the fact his team was replaced in the premier league by us.

jealousy is at the root of his ramblings.

This guy is one of the reasons we’ve enjoyed being in the Prem..It winds them up no end. But don’t forget we’ll be doing the same in the Championship ‘cos they think we shouldn’ be there either.
