Theres been some crackers over the years in our Giant Killing Days (not many i know)
Most memorable to me would FA cup replay at Chelsea 1980 when little Tommy Gore scored and we won 1.0
pretty intimidating night that was getting out the ground and bloody cold.
Hopefully ive got the year right before i get bombarded28 September 2010 at 12:24 am #47520Tomasz Kupisz’s goal against Notts County in added time to make it 4-0.

28 September 2010 at 1:46 am #47525Darren Patterson v Coventry in 1991 – a last minute screamer if memory serves me right.
Paul Rogers v Millwall in the Auto Windscreens Final as well – our best ever last minute winner at Wembley – till this season at least

Patterson’s goal was last minute alreet & it sparked one hell of a celebration from the large latics following that day but a “screamer”??? From what I remember it was a header from about 5 yards out
That said, this was the first football match i ever got drunk before so my memory may be a little sketchy!!28 September 2010 at 12:45 pm #47539Have to agree with the Roberts shout at Highbury, if only because it sparked one of the craziest goal celebrations ever involving Latics fans.
Was even better cos I got tickets for my mate and his Dad – both Arsenal fans – and they were sat beside me when everything went mental.

What about Paul Jewell’s against Norwich in 87(ish)? They were pretty high in the Premier/1st Division or whatever it was called then.

He played in the club’s first ever Football League game, and was an ever-present in the side throughout the club’s first season. In 1980, he scored the winning goal for Wigan against Chelsea in the third round of the FA CUP ??????
Corrected not a replay but 198028 September 2010 at 3:58 pm #47545Maurice Whittle vs. Sheff Wednesday 1977
the first time I was allowed to go to a football match on my own instead of with my dad – exciting, frightening, ultimately exhilarating; the first day of the rest of my life
28 September 2010 at 10:21 pm #47574I note that 2 other members remember the Darren Patterson goal very differently than me – and so all I can do is admit that my memory is failing – can’t help it though – still remember it as a 20 yarder!!
Next thing is that people will be telling me that Pat Gavin wasn’t the goal machine i believe that he was!
28 September 2010 at 11:05 pm #47582Jason Roberts at Arsenal

Defo these 2, i had forgot about Roberts at Highbury i dont think i have ever celebrated a last minute consolation goal to make it 2-1 so much in my life.

Now that’s a memory for me too. Not that I was old enough to go without my dad (only 8 yrs old). It is the very first goal I can remember from Springfield Park, although my dad reckons I went to the games when younger. Now here’s where I embarrass myself – wasn’t it from a free kick just outside the box?
29 September 2010 at 2:16 am #47611Jason Roberts, at Arsenal closely followed by Mark Wignalls screamer v Chelsea early 80’s in the league cup wins it for me though.
