8 January 2013 at 12:56 pm #99581The team Everton put out was a strong one and a 5-1 win proves it but just imagine if a couple of there good players job they didn’t pick up injuries to a few of there main players which could effect there push for Europe a bit risky Mr Moyes me thinks
sterling job, Mr Moyes
‘just imagine…’, better not cross the road then.
football, a contact sport ?
no. serious injuries incurred by top-flight PL players over weekend ?
rather be Moyes (game won, move on to next) than I would M Mckay, S Solbaken (job gone), Pardew, Martinez (replay) etc.
Even Liverpool found it tough going against Mansfield.
PL – our bread and butter,; bot no reason why we can’t have a decent cup run, which provides for a more MEASURED approach to the development of younger players /squad rotation and fan base ‘feel-good’ factor.
RM: re. MAC – if we do get there – please take note.
8 January 2013 at 1:14 pm #99582Wigan fans demanding we are in the same position as the likes of Everton.
Cringeworthy.

It’s the rhythm of your post that reminds me of Ron Manager
Diamond formation?
Does anyone really know what that is?
You knew where you were with Alf Ramsey’s wingless wonders.
4-4-2, 4-2-4, 4-3-3…
Marvellous isn’t it?
Jumpers for goalposts.
Apologies.Incidentally, I agree with your post insomuch as I think we would have benefited more from less wholesale changes being made to the side, and a couple more regular first teamers would’ve helped the cause.
The fringe players would still have had game time, and surely any win is good for morale.
But, I’m not the manager
8 January 2013 at 2:10 pm #99589Agree JPC first team players scoring a pond full of goals giving them confidence .A good win and team performance again a win going into the next game confidence. No need for an extra game(replay).
No brainer .But I’m no manager also just my opinion. :S8 January 2013 at 2:10 pm #99590Wigan fans demanding we are in the same position as the likes of Everton. ????

Seemed to me an attempt to say that if Everton can put a full team out in the cup why should Martinez not have the same policy.
Did it not?

Probably the same people who have been calling for Martinez’s head now would be doing so on the basis he didnt freshen the team up.
Was it Jewell who said fans are great at picking teams after the match?
8 January 2013 at 2:24 pm #99592I feel a win is a win at this stage of the season and the position we are in .And didn’t need a full strength latics to do that IMO.Confidence and goals maybe…and for the record I don’t think we will go down and I feel we have been very unlucky with decisions and injuries and played some good stuff this season and see a lot of merit in what Bobbie as done.

Just to set the record straight even though I defend Martinez’s FA cup selection and his general outlook on the two cups vs PL priorities I would love nothing more than a cup run as it would be a breath of fresh air to our usual battle to stay up.
8 January 2013 at 3:20 pm #99594Moyes said: “I don’t know if it was the strongest Premier League side put out this weekend or not but it could be folly if I had picked up injuries.
“Then it would have been made to look a bad decision. But I was disappointed when we lost our League Cup tie to Leeds United. I gave a few players a go and I didn’t think we came up to scratch.”
8 January 2013 at 3:37 pm #99595I think the difference here is that Martinez wasn’t really expecting us to come up to scratch. All he wanted to do was see how these guys performed and the result was relatively immaterial. On that front, I find it hard to reconcile his view that he is not disrespecting the FA cup.
He is the manager, and is up to him (presumably with the chairman’s blessing) what team he selects.
So, whilst I understand why he is doing what he is doing, personally I would have preferred that he had put put out a slightly stronger team than the one he did and would hope that he will do so in the replay. A bunch of kids, plus probably three of the weakest first-teaamers (Gomez, Stam, Jones) was a disaster waiting to happen.
8 January 2013 at 3:38 pm #99596He who dares wins !
8 January 2013 at 3:41 pm #99597He who dares wins !But that wasn’t his primary objective, whether youwe like it or not!!!
I’m not posting hs quote again – I’ll end up paying royalties
