Just got back and pleased with such a hugely improved performance. I for one haven’t been over impressed with Wednesday albeit top. Watched the highlights of their games and Bromley apart I thought they got results in a couple of games they didn’t deserve, so I was hopeful today. Special mention for Mellish…..he’s took some stick (from me too) but was sound today and put himself about. Should have won but I’m afraid this will be our achilles……….we will get chances and if not converted for all our endeavour we will be grounded near the bottom. Perkins is not for me……did a bit of work around the edge of the area but never looks like working defenders and certainly never wrestles himself in front of them. Cannot see goals coming from him……..Costelloe we know is a bag of nerves when presented with a chance so maybe Hogan can help resolve this glaring problem. Will Keane definitely worth a punt if unattached on a pay per play contract. All in all impressed today ,fully deserved the point and more……need to build now …..with wins now.
13 September 2026 at 9:42 am #207685I also made the trip,
First half 50/50 but for large parts of the 2nd half we dominated the game.
Wier had 2 glorious chances were he came in from the right and decided to pass on both.
The Walsh effort was harder to miss than score. I thought we played really well but Sheff Weds stunk he place out and I’ll be surprised if they go up, that’s unless they do a Birmingham or Wrexham in the January window.
Bannan ?, I heard on Sheffield Weds fan say after leaving the ground “He should have never come back, his sell by date has expired”
And he was right,
For a guy reputably on £20-£25k a week he offered nothing bar a 5 yard safety pass. Yes his stats will be high but meaningless stats when you don’t influence the game.
But at the end of the day we had chance after chance and couldn’t put them away and that will be our downfall that’s unless we convert them.
Hogan?,
I’m just having my doubts I’ll explain.
So he’s been training plus played as a trialist for the best part of 6-8 weeks. Then 2 weeks ago he window closes but we don’t sign him till now,
Why?
What put doubt in Caldwells head and the club? money ? fitness? injuries? I’m sure something factored into not signing him earlier especially with the lack of forwards.
But yesterday we proved we can on the day but I’ll not forget how Stockport’s experience blew us away.
Sheff Weds aren’t a good side so although we looked good on the day inconsistency and the lack of a goal scorer is our current nemesis
13 September 2026 at 9:50 am #207686Definitely a step in the right direction yesterday and will be a massive confidence booster for the squad.
Next up Wycombe. They also had a massive confidence booster yesterday after losses to Sheffield Wednesday and Stockport and a draw against MK. However we are at home and if the crowd get behind the players like they did yesterday then we will be out of the bottom 4 by the international break and can spend a fortnight on the training ground making sure it stays that way.
