Grandson came to me yesterday after school (third former) and asked why is there never any music played after we score a goal anymore. He said that lots of lads at his school ask the same question but no one knows the answer. He has been to plenty of away games and has seen the way the opposition fans enjoy the music in celebration which adds to the party type atmosphere. I said it is probably this generation of old farts struggling to grasp the concept that the future generation of supporters might want something different. Has there been a poll within the supporters club or has anybody asked the young supporters what they want, after all they are the future of the terraces. Me? I can take it or leave it, just wondering if it is the few dictating to the many. He and his mates read this forum so will be interested to know why it was stopped, if anybody knows that is.

I believe oppositions fans mocking us in the premiership by singing the music was one factor, playing music takes away from the fans celebration and impacts the atmosphere is another.

It was tried and disliked by a lot of fans, not sure there was a poll but this is Wigan Latics, maybe the music is played exclusively for some lol

It was also liked by a lot of fans especially the younger end. I personally wasn’t too keen on it, but let’s listen to the local younger fans, rather than an owd speccy like me.
It’s part of the modern game, however if you are like me and would sooner shout “ger in” and then jump up and down with clench fists, there’s nothing stopping you doing that whilst all the ner, ner, ner is going on. :cheer:

Speaking of music I’m sick of hearing Let’s Hang On To What We’ve Got if we are winning at half time and playing well.

Hang On smacks of desperation to me. :(

Also less of the Northern Soul shite as well please – Music for people with no taste and who can’t dance in time.

Ditch “let’s hang on” and ditch that “do I love you” and I also think the monkies tune has become boring now like it did when that bloke started to sing YAMS on the pitch a few years back.the music after a goal was awful and I think fired up opposition teams and away fans alike – glad when they ditched that.
Why don’t they have a club song that is played before the game like they have at derby and leeds to name two- love the derby pride song “steve bloomers watching”
When we played at maribor they had a fantastic club song that shook the stadium before kick off and really got the crowd going so I feel they should get somebody to sort this out.
        Club theme song campaign??

I was not a lover of it, but my youngest loved it. He’d have it back in a flash.
Forest did it when they scored against us, there fans didn’t seem to mind it.

There will be an organ playing single notes that get gradually faster and higher in key as the we move up the pitch if some folk get their way ! As for the music before the match and at half time why not just play some random tunes like a dj would ! Maybe do requests with a shout out for a nominal fee where the proceeds could go to charity ? Anything but the trite shite that they play now !

A lot of older fans hated it and made their feelings known to the club and the club listened and binned it. Someone needs to make the club aware that the kids miss it and I am sure they will consider doing something about it.

As for complaining about Northern Soul, at least it is something that the town is known for.

Good cross section of views there, cheers for that – still believe we miss out on asking the future generation what they would like. I do like Vinces idea of getting a rollicking tune going before the game and the announcer firing up the crowd so that the players know we are behind them from the start. And Filmoss has a good idea as well in that they could do a rolling text thing around the advertising boards for people to text requests for half time music, the proceeds of which can go to a local charity (not too expensive to text though or it would fall flat on its feet). Thanks for input at least grandson will know that people here do think of them from time to time.

I absolutely hated that music after a goal was scored – some loved it but for me it just killed all the spontaneity of a goal celebration & some of my fondest memories of football down the years have been goal celebrations.
Think of the cup final last year & that footage the TV showed of the crowd with some bloke in a blue jumper & with long hair, fist pumping, face gurning & another bloke grabbing the jackets of the people either side of him whilst jumping up & down with the kind of inane grin on his face you normally only see on someone coming up on their first E in a club & their favourite tune comes on.
Or that youtube “Oh my God” footage

If Wembley had played music after goal celebrations on 11th May you’d have had about 1-2 seconds of that & then it replaced by 21,000 people all doing a “tiger feet” dance to whatever that “de de de de” song is, as you used to get at games at the DW. I even used to do it myself

Still I’m nothing if not a democrat & if that’s what the majority of people who watch Latics want & the club decide to bring it back then who am I to argue. It’s worth noting though that the club never consulted with anyone before it was introduced in the first place so those who did like it can’t really complain that they weren’t consulted about it being taken away.
If the club does look at re-introducing it then they should at the very least do some form of internet consultation or even ask the question on the season ticket renewal form

If only there was a person or persons that we were able to talk to and then they could go to the Club and/or gather opinions of a spectrum of fans to see what the consensus is and do what is best for the majority….. something like an appointed Supporters Liaison Officer or something – opportunity missed I think….. oh hang on!!!!

if we are going to bring the music back after a goal then it got to be somthing original, somthing catchy, and somthing the away fans wont take the piss out of. lets have some ideas then. also there could be a slight delay so we can celebrate the goal. love the northern soul btw but lets have some new stuff instead of the same songs and remember, keep the faith. ;)

Exactly – pretty much sums up perfectly why it must never return.

I am an old fart and echo the sentiments of those on here who do not want the music to return. Just because it’s different and something new doesn’t mean it should be accepted as good thing. It was cringeworthy and I hated it with a passion.
Kids of course like naff things so it will appeal to them in the same way “The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round” and “One Direction” do at various times in their lives. Thankfully most of them grow out of it and go on to appreciate that a goal can be celebrated properly without the need of a prompt.
