Heard a rumour that Dave Whelan has bought land adjoining Wrightington Country Club. Surveyors were in the field last week and today. It makes sense doesn’t it?

Think you have to applaud Whelan for throwing his lot in back in 1995 and getting the club up the divisions.
love him hate him what he has done for Latics since he came is his greatest success in his life if you ask me.24 January 2013 at 2:02 am #101082If surveyors are their then the plans are in and available to view.and DW as created dreams for fans pre premier league.and for those who joined post premier league may have a different opinion.but he is looking after our future maybe,
24 January 2013 at 2:21 am #101090Makes good business sense too – visiting teams already stay there.
24 January 2013 at 4:58 am #101110One thing you can guarantee is that when DW decides to sell up or pass the club down to someone it will be in a damn good state off the field. We may get relegated this year but it won’t cripple us financially as it has done teams before us and our facilities will be top notch.
24 January 2013 at 1:15 pm #101117Makes good business sense too – visiting teams already stay there.I’d be surprised if they did build a training facility there as it would actually deter some teams from staying and there in the future.
24 January 2013 at 2:31 pm #101126I am truly excited about this positive development.

IF any surveyors are are working on that site at the moment it would only be for the feasibility/outline planning stage, otherwise it would be already public knowledge.
Just to add the land adjacent and surrounding Wrightington country club is more than likely to be ‘green belt’ and any planning consent for any structures needed to be constructed on this project would have many hurdles to meet before any work got underway.
Also the academy plans would also also have to overcome the problem they want to errect a rather large ‘industrial shed’ in the middle of a residential area.
25 January 2013 at 12:52 pm #101209IF plans are in and they are at that stage you clown! they are plans for a reason for certain people to view and I being one of them.
25 January 2013 at 1:48 pm #101212Wasn’t the news about the new site for the first team training ground inadvertently announced in the resident’s meeting for the aceadmey plans? if so, there ar at elast some people who know where the new site is at least proposed to be. Come on, you Standish Lower Grounders – one of you must have been at that meeting?
25 January 2013 at 2:24 pm #101214I hate people who spread rumours just to be “interesting” but let me tell you the circumstances:
In the changing room at the Wrightington Country Club gym, people (don’t know who they were) were discussing the fact that Dave Whelan had purchased the farmer’s field adjacent to the club. I subsequently saw surveyors in the adjacent field on two seperate occasions.
I know two and two sometimes makes five but I thought it was quite a coincidence when the new facilities were announced days later.
Make of it what you will but Mr Whelan usually has all loose ends tied up before announcing anything.

As everyone with any brains whatsoever knows, no such plans are in the public domain.

How do you know the people you saw in ‘that field’ were surveyors ?
