It has taken Bob two and a half years but he has changed his formation and we finally seem to have a formation the players can play. It’s early days but after the last two matches I feel a lot more confident for the rest of the season. Us Darksiders have been urging Bob to try something else as his plan A did not work, he has and look whats happened.
Well done Bob goodpost goodpost goodpost

i was a a bit dubious at first. but it seems like summot as clicked withe em. 2 clean sheets in a row unall cant be a bad thing can it. start puttin a few more goals away and thursday nights on chnnel5 here we come :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
23 December 2011 at 2:05 pm #763242 clean sheets in a row??? Didn’t the Chelsea game finish 1-1??/
The current formation finally seems to be one that suits the players in his squad as opposed to being one that players are shoe horned into. On top of that it’s good to see (IMO at least) that Bobby seems to have realised that if he plays with 1 up front then it needs a certain type of player to play that role & not just your best & quickest out & out goal scorer
For me Di Santo & Rodallega are better footballers than Sammon & will score more goals than him but playing Sammon in that role allows other players to pose more of an attacking threat
Very, very early days but (Arsenal game apart) I do like what I’ve seen of this formation since the Blackburn game23 December 2011 at 4:01 pm #76334Jones is no wing back though !! The Chelsea kid ????
23 December 2011 at 4:09 pm #76335Jones is no wing back though !! The Chelsea kid ????My thoughts exactly, Jones’s pace lets him down and he does look like the weak link.
What’s encouraging is that even Caldwell looks good in this formation.23 December 2011 at 4:15 pm #76337I say bring Boyce into the middle 3 and push Figs out as wing back.

I say bring Boyce into the middle 3 and push Figs out as wing back.Seriously cant wait until that happens, he will be lethal going forward more often.

i would’nt change anything, Jones does help the midfield out a lot which makes us a lot more solid, like when we took him off against the scousers and Downing came down our left side , good job he was crap or it really could of cost us.

Christ, I wondered how long it would be before some spare-room tactical genius on here tried to claim credit for a recent slight change in our fortunes. Might have known it would be you.

Where in my post did I take credit for our change in tactics???? Although you cannot deny that I have on numerous occassions suggested we needed to change tactics, formation. I was giving credit because we have looked 100% better in our last two matches, long may it continue.
24 December 2011 at 12:59 am #76363Wasn’t it the “one up front” that had most of the darksiders moaning on here 7 days a week?
It’s amazing how fickle some fans are. Lose at OT and go on a 2 or 3 game losing run and the usual suspects will pop up again with their moan, moan feking moan.
I’ve been sat on my hands for the most part whilst logging into the CL message board for the past week or so.Some of you change like the wind.
I would like to suggest that Bobby has changed his formation due to having key players fit and others who have found a bit of form.
As for the comment about Jones being too slow for that position, hands up who have made a post about Gomez being too slow for the Prem. ;)
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!24 December 2011 at 5:13 am #76367some people are not happy unless they have a target.

Well, I’d suggest the bit were you mentioned that “us Darksiders have been urging Bobby to change formation and tactics”. The mere thought that Bobby would bother his arse to listen to anybody on these message boards is frankly laughable.
In any case, JR is spot on elsewhere on this thread where he puts the improvement down more to players finding form, fitness and no little confidence rather than the slight tweak in formation.
He’s also right in saying that the usual prats will all be back with their doom and gloom if, as is quite likely, we lose on Monday.
24 December 2011 at 12:54 pm #76369Oh yeah, and another final thing. If I remember rightly, most of the budding tactical gurus on here were demanding that we play the Neanderthal basic 442 with a big un and a little un up front. Don’t recall anyone (actually, I did once or twice, by the way thinking about it) advocating going to 3 centre backs. And I’m damn sure that no-one ever thought of using Jones as a left full/wing back.
So, one thing that Hindley IS right about is that any credit for the change of fortunes is due to Roberto and no-one else, except perhaps the likes of Diame, Moses, Caldwell, Figueroa and McCarthy who have finally found the form we know they are capable of over recent weeks.
As you say Hindley, long may it continue, though United do seem to be in ominously good form at the moment.
