Not a bad appointment but he had better players at Fulham and hence their good times and at Liverpool he was never going to be given a chance with King Kenny looking over his shoulder.
Plenty of experience though and might just give them the boost they need.
And yet people claimed the likes of Hodgson wouldn’t come to Latics if he was offered the post if Martinez was sacked/resigned
West Brom are probably the only club (apart from Blackpool) other than Latics who are as stringent when it comes to their transfer & wages policy & it aint stopped him going there
For my money its probably the best appointment they could have made – I think he’s a very good manager in terms of getting the best out of average players or getting them into a system that suits them. Its when he goes to bigger clubs & has to set his sights higher that he seems to struggle
His appointment has just made the relegation battle that little bit tougher me thinks
the one person I didnt want them to bring in was Allerdyce as he would have kept them up. Lets just hope it takes them a while to get used to him as West Brom are one of my tips for relegation
The only reason they stayed up was that Bullard came back from injury and hit top form which ended in him getting selected for England- he was on fire for those last crucial games

I still don’t think he’d have come to Wigan. Aside from Whelan’s strict managerial wage structure (never mind the players’ wage structure) West Brom are a higher profile club than us, despite being the perfect example of a yo-yo team.
Could you image Hodgson accepting a job at Blackpool, Burnley – because that’s the sort of level you’re looking at in terms of perception from the outside world?
