after today’s game i was thinking someone on the lines of mark hughes, graeme souness, paul jewell ( ).

None of the above in my opinion.

Hughes wouldn’t consider Wigan as he left Fulham for a ‘bigger’ club; Souness has failed in nearly every post he’s taken – and both the Blackburn and Newcastle supporters celebrated when he left; Jewell had one good half-season, then struggled at Derby after leaving Wigan.

If Martinez goes, don’t expect a big name coming in.[/quote]

Hmm, that said, here’s an interesting option. Names dont come much bigger than this and he’s worth a fortune at scrabble.

It would be an interesting proposition, and I don’t think that would be out of the realms of possibility as it would be a case of Solskjaer doing exactly the same as many of the players – ie. using Wigan for experience and as a springboard into a bigger job.

I’m surprised Paul Hart’s name hasn’t been mentioned. Even though he’s not had a great managerial record he’s got a long history of balancing books, developing young players, and has the added bonus of being from Wigan.

He’s an exact fit as far as Mr Whelan is concerned.

Paul Hart would be a disaster. I saw his first game in charge of Swindon last season where, despite needing wins, he started by flooding the midfield and playing one upfront.

Swindon never looked like scoring, sound familiar?

As a young man in Scholes Billy Davies was the name of a prominent local homosexual gentleman. Do you mean that one or the shouty Scot Championship standard plodder?

Didn’t say he’d be a good appointment – I’m just surprised he hasn’t been mentioned. He ticks all the boxes.
