i’ll admit to being a supporter of bobby’s last season, but 2 games in & i’m becoming hugely concerned about my club. though i like him as a person & want him to do well, i am beginning to feel like most people on here that he is out of his depth at this level, & am actually starting to turn. i was always quietly concerned that we took him too quickly from swansea & he perhaps needed another few years there before making the premiership grade. so the question is, does the club;
a) get rid now
or
b) bring in some help from a proven manager who can help the guy, like when venables helped out robson at west brom a few years back.
ps – scary thought entered my mind as i wrote that then, bryan robson as next manager. :o
22 August 2010 at 1:33 pm #43631I have never doubted Martinez, regarding the style of play he wants to bring to Wigan.
I do however doubt his backroom staff, he needs the proper coaches in place to get the best out of these players and the current mob i feel don’t have it
Get experienced guys in and it will transform the team.

Most people can see the way we play leaves us vulnerable to letting a shed load of goals in, and results prove it as well.
Some coming in advising him to play different would be pointless as he wouldn’t listen, and the advisor would leave in frustration?

Crying shame the ‘prodigal son’ couldn’t cut the mustard….but hey.
Bringing ‘help’ in for him, would be the most cringeworthy scenario possible. It would be an admittance that Martinez is NOT up to the job, and is not capable, and I just can’t see him accepting someone else coming in. He seems far too stubborn. And anyway, I wouldn’t like it, if it were me. I wouldn’t accept it. I’d walk.
Look at Liverpool a few years ago. Similar scenario. Appointed Roy Evans as boss, then found out he wasn’t up to the task or dealing with the ego’s. So the board bring in Gerard Houllier to work ‘alongside’ him. Both men had their differences,and it led to Evans making a rather messy and embarrassing exit.
We don’t want, nor can afford to have that kind of thing happen at Wigan Athletic. Liverpool were in no danger of relegation. We, most definitely ARE.
It’s not working with Martinez, and I hope Whelan can be big enough to admit it, and also admit that a ‘mutual’ parting of the ways would be best for both parties. The club, and more so Martinez, are becoming a laughing stock. If he goes now, perhaps he can resurrect himself at a lower league club. I’m sure he could. But the longer it drags on, the more damage he does to his own reputation.
No room for half measures. Get shut.
