Rumour is it’s Tom Morris the owner of Home Bargains worth around £4billion+ and Carragher playing some role
6 April 2026 at 10:39 am #207150Heard exactly the same on Saturday. Heard he wants ground but will consider purchasing without it.
6 April 2026 at 9:50 pm #207151Hope that’s not a cruel April Fool’s joke doing the rounds.
6 April 2026 at 11:32 pm #207152Don’t think it is Tom Morris would be nice though
According to the guy who does the Wigan sports press he has heard about it but it’s not those being mentioned so just have to wait and see if it’s true at all
7 April 2026 at 8:15 am #207153His name has appeared loads of times and Nixon mentions him and with Carragher taking over as his 2nd in command.
I mean, it might be Chinese whispers granted but when people with their ear far far closer to the ground than most fans then you have to sit up and take notice.
I’m not so sure how much truths in it but again, why not ?. Danson doesn’t knock about with folk in The Brick or Berkeley Square his circle of friends and business deals revolves people with money so I’m sure he knows him on a personal level.
So your worth £4-£5billion, 72 years old, what do you do with your money ? buy another shop ? Car ? House ?
It would be an excellent entry level club paying risk free rent, the club doesn’t have debt or massive overheads and the fans will come back if we do well like most clubs.
Preston seems to do well without throwing big money at money so with a bit of backing and a good run we could go up and hold our own in the Championship then who knows.
Anyway right ow there nothing more than pipe dreams like most clubs have but first and foremost,
We need to stay up

7 April 2026 at 3:51 pm #207159Hopefully the relegation issue will be settled very soon and although a shaky win yesterday i feel it was a very large step towards safety.
Agree with CW , debt free with a few player assets and also a very good youth policy together with an ambitious ex player as head coach who has started so well with very little is surely a positive.
With some sensible investment and a dip into the youth reserves in the summer could start pushing up League 1 and beyond and get the much needed extra supporters back again.

8 April 2026 at 5:39 pm #207163I think we’re missing that 1 or 2 experienced midfielders. We need at least one guy calling the shots because at the moment I struggle to see who’s doing the leading.
Every team needs that one player that when he’s there the others get a boost.
But the signs are there, oh and get Smith further up the park that’s a must

10 April 2026 at 9:57 am #207167I hope it’s true
And gets sorted sooner rather than later danson lack of interest in the football side of things is alarming
But understandable him being a rugby mon
I think the carragher rumour would be great for the club
We need people who love football and want to take the club further
Yes danson saved us and I’m great full for that but now he has got what he wanted has well the stadium
It’s time for him to get out try to get someone in and move on when dansons are gone then I’ll return to watch them again
30 April 2026 at 6:10 pm #207227I wish they would get a move on and get gone and sell the Latics and Stadium to an individual or consortium who gives a shit about our club. They can take their management team and board with them. Pray that we have a new owner soon with blue and white blood with no interest in the Wigan Sports Company or stadium company or whatever they want to dress their shambles up as. Ideal dream The DW revitalised with a blue and white theme throughout, nothing about rugby visual (even the pitch markings), Sharpey, Jacko and even Talal all involved and let’s get the feel good back that’s been fading away ever since these lot took over and slowly chipped away at our identity. Up the Latics.
Blue is the colour
Football is our game
There’s one team in Wigan
And Latics is our name.
1 May 2026 at 8:05 am #207228The sad reality is, Danson owns the ground regardless of who owns the football or rugby and the way he operates if one or both codes were ever sold he’d make sure they’d paid top dollar rent.
I’m quite surprised Kingdom haven’t made an approach. They are long standing sponsors and Latics through and through plus there not short of a bob or two.
Now the books are more or less straightened out, well far better than previous years I’m sure there’s one or two who fancy a pop at owning a club
3 May 2026 at 11:19 am #207233Let’s hope so , watched the fans forum footage yesterday .
The owners have most certainly stabilised the club off the pitch and should be given credit for that.
They also seem to have put massive emphasis on the youth and academy as well as community initiatives so fair play to them and it might just attract that investment now the finances are sorted.
Slow progress will do and a few years of consolidation getting better over time will get the club moving forward again. cup runs and flirtations with the top 7 would do for me next year.
Gary seemed very positive about next season though so must have plenty of irons on the fire to talk so ambitiously about the future.
As an ex player he will get time he needs and he seems the perfect man for the job as he did in his first stint 10 years ago.
I think with the right management and scouting and a good youth set up you can achieve things over time without big pots of cash and it just needs patience now from everyone.
Maybe an investor is waiting in the wings for all we know and that is why things are being raked up so positively.
I did find the bit about the £7 pints funny when the panel said £7 was the normal across league 1 and the angry muttering from many Wigan voices present telling them it wasn’t.
onwards and upwards UTFT
12 May 2026 at 4:20 pm #207259I thought interested party wanted to take over football side of the club. Does that mean MD would still own it. And its more like investment rather than a buy out.
13 May 2026 at 9:35 am #207261I think Danson wants to retain part ownership with around 20%-25%. I’m not quite sure whether it’s to safeguard or to keep a cheap finger in the pie just incase we were ever successful again
or
He can claim some of the sell-on clause dosh still lingering. The harsh reality is, only a handful of clubs ever become financially stable and successful while some fight to balance the books and the rest fight to survive.
Football club owners in the lower tend to have links or ties to a club and they’re fully aware they won’t come out of it richer.
I’d be very much interested to see what Danson would charge any potential new owners rent.
So right now we’re surviving whether it’s a good or bad thing I’m not sure. On the one hand were not playing Daisy Hill but on the other last season (bar last few) it was torture
If were to grow and be attractive to the kids of today we have to be either:
Be successful which is easier said than done or with incentives. We’ve alot of empty seats and room to grow but for me without on field investment (wages) we will struggle.
The better players want more per week and if we can’t offer the like of Bettoni enough we will struggle.
And it’s all good and well having a superb youth but if they follow Bettoni then what’s the point?. I can see Chapman following in Bettoni’s shoes

29 May 2026 at 8:09 pm #207284News out the budget will be even smaller this season and it will be loans, free’s & kids on National League wages.
Looks like same old same next season without Taylor and the goals.
As for Wright signing? there’s more chance of us signing Elliott Anderson
