So, we have our final parachute payment (8 Million) plus if rumours are to be believed 4 Mil for McClean, plus a few other Mill for other players (Carson, McCann etc) means we may have approx. 15 Million pounds to play with for a new squad to challenge for promotion, plus if Holt stays, I would expect/demand he scores a shed load in that division, Huws back fit (if he stays), plus up Kim and pennant (If they stay), plus a couple of kids given their chance in the first team, dare I say half of me is already excited for next season ??, make a good start and who knows ? Its been a terrible, terrible season but not the worst ive experienced with the latics, and I will still be there next season, come rain or shine.

Doesn’t work like that. Income from League One is far less and with all the best will in the world we know gate receipts will be down. Meanwhile running costs of trying to keep some of our better players (wages etc) will still be high.
It’s the old “Whelan’s backpocket” myth. We will need that money to keep our heads above water and not do a Portsmouth.
26 April 2015 at 11:24 pm #141681not sure about that Garswood. We got our biggest earners off the payroll a while back and we are supposively self sustainable now so dont see why we shouldnt spend the cash on the squad. agreed crowds will be down though.
26 April 2015 at 11:31 pm #141682I think we have two years of parachute payments left ? 2 years @ £16m (which we’ve had) and two more at £8m or something like that (I think!)

You would be very surprised to hear how much it takes to ‘oil the wheels of business’ these days and priority must remain with the clubs solvency. I agree with Garswood and the comparison he made with Portsmouth.
26 April 2015 at 11:44 pm #141685well hopefully we can do a bit of both, top up the coffers but also invest in the squad, the longer we stay in League 1 the harder it will be to get out of.
