With all the fuss about James thy going to Everton and Shotton coming in with two mins to spare before the window closed, not much has been said about Powell.
We may have got a little gem here from what I remember him at Crewe. There is no better club at finding young kids and turning them into great players.
He is generally regarded as a midfielder, but has two great feet and an eye for goal. Perhaps he could play alongside Fortune with Gomez and Maloney feeding them the amo.
Take a look at his finishing with both feet, a rare commodity these days.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!4 September 2013 at 12:18 pm #120558That is the best compilation of goals I have EVERseen.
That they are all by one player is some fete, that he he plays for us this season is pleasing.
4 September 2013 at 9:23 pm #120586The goal he scored at Wembley had a touch of class to it – and his only goal of last season wasn’t bad either. :(
Apparently United had first dibs on him from an early age – really looking forward to seeing him in our colours.
4 September 2013 at 10:02 pm #120587Looks a good ‘un with a good eye for where the goal is
4 September 2013 at 10:57 pm #120588and by the looks of things half of them scored in conditions that make the red wreck look like wembly.
4 September 2013 at 11:03 pm #120589Do you think that OC will give him more games than the last Man Utd Loanee got at Wigan in a full season ? Note: I was very careful not to mention a certain “past employee” in the process; so that his groupees have no need to leap to his defense,
4 September 2013 at 11:30 pm #120592We’ve already got twelve midfield players;
McClean McArthur McCann McManaman
Beausejour Gomez Watson Maloney
Espinoza Fyvie Perch RedmondNow add Powell to the pool. They won’t all get a place in the first team. And Fyvie and Redmond aren’t going to gain much experience this year – except perhaps in the Europa League trip to Kazan.
We could have saved some wage packets here, and perhaps gained a little cash too.
