By all accounts Sharpie spoke to him about the offers and he said don’t entertain any, he’s happy at the mighty Tics (didn’t really say that bit but he might of done). He would of been on more money at a premier league club and he’s chose to stay, hats off to the young man on his day he’s excellent .

1 February 2018 at 5:41 pm #165802He’s definitely sorted himself out and he’s playing well which is why sentiments towards him have changed. On current form made up he’s staying and fair play to him for turning down a big bucks move to stay with us.
1 February 2018 at 6:06 pm #165803From the BBC site:
Wigan forward Nick Powell turned down the chance to join Premier League Brighton on deadline day, despite the Seagulls eventually offering £10m for the former Manchester United player.
The Latics – top of League One and with an FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester City to look forward to – were keen to hold on to their star men and twice rejected bids earlier in the day.
In the end though, it was Powell who took the decision to remain at the DW Stadium.
1 February 2018 at 6:25 pm #165806Arise Sir Nicholas of Powell. Hope he gets huge cheers every time he gets the ball v Gills
1 February 2018 at 7:05 pm #165807For a league 1 side to reject 10m for one of their players has to be a first.
I know he didn’t want to leave but a club in our financial position must of given it consideration.
Delighted Nick is staying and for a player who has been accused of having a poor attitude he’s proved himself now on and off the field. At last a player not motivated by greed and a huge thanks to Sharpie for being open and honest over what happened.
1 February 2018 at 11:26 pm #165818Unless we don’t need the odd ten million anymore. Who knows now what sort of money is going to be invested.
1 February 2018 at 11:41 pm #165821If he enjoys playing football and performing in front of a crowd, I guess he realised his chances of doing that are greater at Wigan than Brighton. If that is what he enjoys why go somewhere where he could sit on a bench, or comfy seat in a pair of shorts. Maybe he’s learning from Bogle, Watson, Yanic and a stack of others who thought they’d get a game every week but didn’t.
1 February 2018 at 11:48 pm #165824May also have a big cash incentive to get us promoted and to play next season.

2 February 2018 at 2:05 pm #165846May also have a big cash incentive to get us promoted and to play next season.I doubt very much whether any promotion &/or loyalty bonus & Latics Championship salary is as much as he’d have got from Brighton in the form of a signing on fee (typically 10% of the transfer fee – so £1mill) plus the premier league wages from BHA regardless of whether he played there or not

I know what you mean but his wages may be just petty cash to the people who are going to invest in our club. What has happened during this window may very likely have been dictated by the new people.2 February 2018 at 5:41 pm #165854May also have a big cash incentive to get us promoted and to play next season.

2 February 2018 at 5:49 pm #165855Whatever the reason for him staying it gives us a much better chance of achieving our goals.
A late Powell winner tomorrow anyone?
