Please tell me what the bloody hell is going on with this negative attitude. Can never in all my years including some poor seasons remember anything like this.
Surely they didn’t do this at Utd ffs!!28 November 2016 at 11:40 pm #152698DONNY YOU BEAT ME TO IT…How can you not play your leading goalscorer???? Not sure what is going on at the club?????? Players come here with big reputations, do nothing, we move them on and they are star players at other clubs i.e. Forshaw Best player on the field on Saturday by all accounts, deemed not good enough for us.
29 November 2016 at 12:35 am #152700Does anyone on here read the club site?
Grigg aint well. Forshaw was all ego and hated the area. Just cos ya sell a player dont mean you think hes crap.Us Saints fans think Wigoon rugby fans moan.
29 November 2016 at 10:48 am #152715Apologies for where this thread started from. A thread about not using strikers. Some better punters on here hinted last year about using Yanic as a striker and after Yans performance last night they were right. If we see that sort of line up again we need not even have too doubt the manager about playing a midfielder as a striker. I think we can now call Yanic a stiker or winger.. With pace and form like last night in that sort of counter attack game we could just do with another one or two players who can keep up with his pace.
Perhaps this is a case of trusting the manager with his vast experience. Yootha had said he wanted a better link between defence and attack and we got that last night. He had previously said about Marcus Rashfords conversion from winger to striker and how he compared Yanic to him.
Let us see on Saturday if we play the counter game or a more possession based game. It should be interesting but a win will be a real confidence booster and a little bit more feel good for the fans before another winnable game at Villa.
What Warren as shown us already is that there options there for us and a few other players like Jacobs and Power will have to look closely at their form in the coming weeks.29 November 2016 at 1:49 pm #152718Hang on! Surely you don’t want Yanic in the CF position every week?
Yanic spent most of last night on the wing/wide areas and had a lot of success just a pity we didnt play a recognised striker otherwise we could have had three or four goals against Huddersfield.
I am 100% sure Grigg was not injured or ill last night yet he didnt make the squad let alone the bench, if we had lost last night people would have been up in arms that we didnt start with a recognised striker, get Yanic back on the wing and bring back Grigg thats the way forward for me.
Dont get me wrong i am made up with the win and the points but wouldnt like to see that team selection every week, why play people out of position when we have fit and well strikers bench warming?
Fuck the EFL
29 November 2016 at 2:12 pm #152719No I want Yanic on his wing and Grigg up top but what is wrong with having a couple of alternatives if needed to go on a smash and grab raid like last night.
29 November 2016 at 2:50 pm #152720like joyce says he has seen something in yanic on the lines of rashford
and lets face it joyce is well trained in that area ….. i feel yanic will now become a striker instead of a wide man
and last night he was effective and joyce was spot on29 November 2016 at 4:46 pm #152724At home let’s be bold Yanik with Grigg up top
29 November 2016 at 4:47 pm #152725Donny, how can you go from this –
“No strikers yet again! Can never in all my years including some poor seasons remember anything like this. Surely they didn’t do this at Utd ffs!!”
to this, in less than 24 hours
but what is wrong with having a couple of alternatives if needed to go on a smash and grab raid like last night.
Its not normal behaviour. You’ve made a fool of yourself.
The annoying thing is, you’ll probably do it again next week. You’ve no shame :( .
29 November 2016 at 10:01 pm #152730Sorry MC Murphy but if you read further up that I apologised for my over reaction to the news we were going without a recognised striker. ( This is not the first time someone associated with Wigan as eaten Humble Pie).
It’s not the first time anyone has dived in feet first and then later reflected on a statement. Do many of us remember anything like going into a game without a recognised striker other than Coyle a couple of times and some of Malky antics with McClean. That statement is not so outrageous at all.
After seeing the performance of Yanic as the lonely one up top like a three man front line himself, I and many others could eat humble pie because that performance as a lone striker in a counter attacking game showed me and many others there is an alternative. That alternative doesn’t necessarily mean every week but one that could be used effectively again if we go into a match with that game plan.
It was risky as we lose Yans pace out wide.29 November 2016 at 10:54 pm #152731No shame.
29 November 2016 at 11:33 pm #152732I was one having a pop at the manager for his team selection last night but on reflection i think we need to start trusting him and and what ever team he picks. He has only been with the squad a few weeks and he has to find out for himself which players are best in which positions. Alot of teams play like we did away from home, brighton springs to mind, defending and counter attacking, last night it worked, might need a more attacking style at home though,as i said lets give it time trust his judgment see how it goes. Now Donny may i have a piece of your pie please.

No I don’t want to see that every week and I don’t think we will once Joyce gets from the players what he is looking for.
