but when i watch our matches again on tv, the football dosen’t actually look that bad. look, a lot of teams play the way we do, & yes, when a team is trying to create something it can be a bit boring in the build up, but on the occassions it comes off, it looks quite tasty. hence the reason i would rather watch this type of football as opposed to the hoof & 10 men behind the ball tactics of jewell & bruce – & no, i’m not defending martinez, but would rather watch this type of football.

secondly, i was watching the chelsea v arsenal game today & everytime both teams tried something which didn’t come off, the crowd still got behind them & applauded them for at least trying something. when we try to do something which dosen’t come off the chants i usually hear are; bloody rubbish, absolute crap, oh ffs we are sh1t.

like i said on a previous post, the moaning behind me from the 1st to the 84th minute yesterday was diabolical & i sometimes wonder why these people actually bother turning up. when we went 2-0 up i turned round when everyone else had sat down & shouted “are you gonna stop your moaning now, is this ok for you?” for a few minutes it did go quiet, then in the dying moments of the game when it was obvious we had won & we were trying to wind down the clock, they returned to their moaning because we weren’t going forward. it beggered belief. it then got me thinking, do we have the most thickest fans in the country. what annoys me the most & has done for years about being a latics fan, is the stupidity sometimes of our fans. i sometimes do not understand their mentality.

    :D

      No it’s not just you.
I sit in the West Stand in front of (and behind) the moaning old gits who subscribe to the Allerdyce / Pulis schools of “lump it and crowd the box and then kick the opposition off the pitch”. It drives me insane to listen to the stick Gomez gets when he is possibly the most creative footballer we have (if a little too slow at times). He had 60+ minutes of being moaned at but suddenly it all went quiet! And I agree some of the televised games are a lot worse than ours.
I know we sometimes do not get exciting end to end movement and a shedload of goals but since when does a complete turnround of personnel, style etc bring immediate success? Wenger has had 14 years, Ferguson 24, Moyes 8? etc. Anyone for Roy Hodgson? Give Martinez and his methods – and players – a break, get behind them and realise we are not Barcelona, Real Madrid, etc
This seasons results so far: Played 9, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 3.
Last 7 results: WWDLWDW – OK some are Carling Cup but get real and support the club.

      Well said Weststandjcl ;)

We have a new goalkeeper, a new central defensive partnership, a new full back and a new striker. It was always going to take time to get us playing as a unit.

I think we have turned things around quicker than I expected after the start we made and we are defending a lot better as a team.

We have kept two clean sheets in our two away games, which comes down to us playing 4-5-1 and not 4-3-3 and attacking on the break when we can.

When it comes off and we’re picking up points it’s great especially after our drubbings at White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge last season. I think we can go to St James’ Park next week expecting to come back with at least a point.

The problems will always be at home where we have to force the initiative as the home side.

We were more effective with two up front in the second half (even though it was against 10 men) on Saturday.

In my opinion we should play our 4-5-1 away from home but go 4-4-2 at home.

One good thing is we are now starting to grind out results. One defeat in seven games can’t be scoffed at.

We are also seeing glimpses of what Bob is trying to achieve. The move at the start of the second half , when Di Santo should have scored , could be a taster of the things to come. Lets hope so eh ?

But the main thing is comparing the squad that Bob inherited to the one we now have. He inherited a squad full of deadwood. Players who were simply pinching a living. A squad that even after a 9 -1 defeat doesn’t / can’t see any changes in the line up. Compare that to today’s squad , full of good , promising YOUNG players. On Saturday we got 3 valuable points and still had players like Boselli , Moses , Cleverley & Caldwell in reserve.

Yea , we are definitely getting there.

Thought McCarthy was man of the match on Saturday. Covered loads of ground and won the ball back plenty of times.

It’s young talent like this, which will ultimately enable our side to flourish.

But wouldn’t you just love to see Moses in the hole? ;)

I would prefer to see myself in the hole TBH.

          Agree with that.

Don’t agree with that. :D I’d leave Gomez there and put Moses were Rodallega doesn’t really play.
