Apparently, there’s a bunch of Martinez sycophantic knon-nowts over on TNS, too

Let us, like Him, hold up one brown shoe and let the other brown show be upon our foot, for this is His sign, that all who follow Him shall do likewise.

Whether you like him or not, his record as our manager has been very poor.

        I am talking RESULTS wise.

I like him as a bloke, he is a lovely fella…..I just wish we were winning more games than we do…..5 is it, this season.

Any progress that has been made has been OFF the pitch, not on it. I don’t think anybody can argue against me when I say that. Look at where we are in the table.

Best scenario for me would be for us to stay up and him to walk away in the summer. Whelan will NEVER sack him, or he would’ve been gone ages ago. I feel he will probably be the last manager Dave Whelan employs as Latics boss, meaning this summer could be a big one, in two different ways.

But, serious question, who would you have as a replacement? (Bearing in mind all the hard work that has been done off the pitch and the progression that needs to be continued)

Yeah, I know. And I agree with you. I just have no idea. I suppose it all depends on where Martinez would end up going and if Jones goes with him, or is still here, maybe he would get a crack at the job? Continuity, and all that.

I have heard Huddersfield are considering an approach for him, however.

I know, theres not an abundance of top-flight managers about.

I honestly can’t come up with a replacement who I think ticks all the boxes, other than Jones.

But the anti-Martinez would soon get p1ssed off with that when they realised that Jones was adopting the exact same tactics as Martinez had done previously!

Incidentally, I work with a Huddersfield fan who is convinced Jones is on his way there.

Could say a lot for Martinez’s summer intentions, if Jones does go.

              I thought exactly the same.

I am honest and admit that I have fluctuated from being a fan of Martinez….to not being…and vice versa several times.

I’m not someone who is ‘spitting hatred’ at him, because that’s a load of shite. I just see it as being a case of managers come, managers go, same as players. The only ones who remain are the fans.

I do look him though and think that perhaps he IS coming towards the end of his term as Wigan manager. I don’t think he has done a fantastic job, but given the fact that he has kept us up, you could say he has done a very good job. I suppose it just depends on your level of expectation.

Is this his 4th or 5th season? 4th isn’t it? Given his ‘3 year plan’ in all honesty I would have expected us to be somewhere between 10th and 15th now. If not just outside the top 8. But we are a club who just does NOT spend money on players. I know we’ve had to level the books and all that, but I still say we’ve been too frugal. That £10 million we got for Moses…we should have invested a fair bit of that into the squad. Is it Whelan, Martinez, or both who is frugal? I’m not sure.

Progress made off the pitch, but we’ve stayed stagnant on it. I think this season may be one too far, but even if it isn’t, perhaps it’s time for a change? Perhaps a club will come in for Martinez in the summer and he will leave anyway?

Be good if he left with his head held high, wouldn’t it?

Like you say though, no idea who will come in as replacement.

                Rafa Benitez? ;)

HAS to be Jones. Has the Martinez philosophy ingrained in him but with more bite to his personality.

The ONLY man for the job.
