does anyone have the ‘real’ inside knowledge as to why it went so drastically wrong for him?
Some have said, you do not become a shit manager overnight. Others have said that he lost the dressing room. People I sit with have claimed that his training techniques were suspect and that the sports specialist he brought in was useless. Was the relationship with Mr Whelan as cordial as he made it out to be?
So, without any reference to aunty Agnes’, best friends, hairdressers dog walker who sweeps occasionally the outer corridors between the hospitality lounges – does anybody have any idea what went so wrong for the man?

No.
15 November 2014 at 8:07 pm #135549Unless you know a player at the club or fairly senior staff at the club you will never know the true answer to that, I’m afraid. And they would have to be thoroughly unprofessional people to tell you, even if you did know someone in that category.
15 November 2014 at 9:36 pm #135553Got told by member of coaching staff in first month of season that he had lost the dressing room as he was treating the players like kids. This was then repeated by previous Physio who stated players didn’t wanna play for him. Spoke to these guys regularly over last few years and have no reason not to believe them.

Spoke to these guys regularly over last few years and have no reason not to believe them.To be honest, that much is pretty obvious. Otherwise, how do you explain, for example, Sean Maloney playing a blinder for Scotland but looking a pile of crap when he has played for us.
Unfortunately, it’s a sad fact that players can decide not to perform for a particular manager if they want to. As well as a fact, it’s an absolute disgrace, in my opinion.

Respect works both ways. Bad management skills if that is true.

You can have all the management skills in the world but if they decide they don’t like you they won’t play for you. Obviously, you have to ask what he has done to make them dislike him so much, but we’ll probably never find out the real reasons – which is exactly what the OP was asking. It probably is a case of six and two threes.

Oh, wait a minute, Mike Pollitt was our number 12 and now he’s on the coaching staff. You think he’s the bad apple??
Or maybe he’s your contact at the club???!!! I’ve cracked it there haven’t I?
16 November 2014 at 1:58 am #135567Thanks for your input fella’s and I agree that it would have to come from someone in-the-know and that would indeed be unprofessional. However, as time mooches on maybe something might just slip out to give us an insight as to exactly what went on.

This last few months will be a distant memory.
The Bruce Rioch reign was similar to this, decent players who couldn’t gel under the Manager, these thing unfortunately happen from time to time.16 November 2014 at 12:28 pm #135578We all, have or have had the shouty boss at work which works at first then it wears thin and plain old annoys to the point you do less and less.
Then we have the boss who likes to use the more calm approach, motivate the players and come across as your friend rather than your boss and talk things through then raise the roof only when it’s needed.
Rosler from day one could be heard in all 4 stands, how long can you keep that up for and still keep the respect of the players ? , been bawled at 24/7 ?. I remember watching a Brentford match on Sky were they interviewed a Brentford player on the pitch after the game. He was asked whats it like with the new manager (not long after Rosler had gone, he replied something like “Well at least we don’t get shouted at all the game and our ears bent”.
I just hope we have someone who can piece this mess together, and gain the respect of the players. A play-off place is not out the question

We are only 12 points (4 wins) from a play-off place. We win 4, others lose & suddenly everything becomes rosy again. If we can get into the top half by january – who knows.

If we win 4 on the trot we would be about 12th, unless all the other teams don’t play at all!

Of course fill i agree not all teams will drop points, but IF we could win 3 or 4 on the bounce, it WILL push us up the table as the teams above us (which at this stage is a lot of teams) will play each other & hence take points off each other. Therefore we move up the table – providing off course we do win 3 or 4 on the bounce.

Don’t get me wrong, I aint knocking it but it will take an almighty effort if we are to challenge for a play off spot! Perhaps we should maybe write this season off as a promotion effort and just get back to being a decent side who can be up there next season! A top 8 finish would be a good effort in the circumstances!
