I don’t think it’ll happen but I’d be in two minds about it, if it did, as a Wigan fan I’d be pleased for him but as and England fan I believe all players should be genuinely from the country they play for and the Manager (although Capello is doing a fine job). What do you think ?

I want us to win the world cup, couldn’t give a toss who the manager is or who wears the shirt as long as they give their all and if we win the world cup with an Italian manager and a French left winger I for one wouldn’t be bothered at all.

Look at our cricket team, half of them are South African and the rest are made up of British born asians and a few English players.

Terry Butcher was from Hong Kong (though admittedly I assume he was born to parents of English/British descent. John Barnes was from Jamaica. Graeme Le Saux & Matt Le Tissier weren’t English.

Didn’t bother me when they played & it wouldn’t bother me if N’Zogbia got picked as long as whoever pulls on the shirt gives their all.

Think N’Zogbia has about as much chance as me of getting called up though

I don’t like this idea of qualifying by residency alone. IMO, you should at least have some English blood in you, even if it is just your long lost great-grandmother

I agree with Tyldesley when he says N’Zogbia won’t get called up because I don’t believe he will even be considered.

I would like to see him go to the World Cup with England or France for the following 3 (main) reasons:

          1. A Wigan player competitng among the world’s best.
          2. He’s likely not to be a Wigan player come next season so, if he does get called up and performs well his value will shoot up and we’ll be able to cash in on him.
          3. I believe he is good enough for both England and France.

I assume that the Channel Islands are classed as “English” for purposes of FIFA then?

I’m not saying I agree with this, but if you look at other sports, England have no reluctancy in picking foreign-born players, like in the cricket we have four South African born players in the team.
Yet in English football seems to be different.

Why not? Name one better left winger that qualifies for England? He is better than downing, probably better than Ashley Young and anyone else I can think of.
If you meant he wont be considered due to the fact he is French then I apologise.
Back to the point… I also would prefer somebody foreign who is good and proud to represent our country, than somebody who is English but not as good (Ie Downing).
