on a personal note, a lot of my more favoured players in the past have moved on to pastures new. Players who i believed would leave us struggling to replace them. We have always managed to somehow come good and bring in good solid replacements for some of our bigger players.
I think maybe this will also be the case with Charlie if he decides to leave us and move on. However, as good as Charlie is for us, i cannot see him holding a place in the premierleague with one of the top clubs. Arsenal, the Manchester twins, Chelsea, dare i mention Liverpool; I feel would expect a little more from their winger with regards to overall application. Which leaves Spurs – I think Harry will look again to champions league experience if poss. So we are now moving onto the likes of Everton, Fulham, Stoke,Villa. Are their aspirations any differnet to our own for next season? The prospect of bigger crowds, for sure this will be a factor. I feel however that Charlie would consider staying on with us if we can show some type of committment on the clubs part to progress.
A move to Blackburn, Newcastle and Sunderland, who have all been mentioned again recently for me is a step backwards for our maestro.
I think there maybe a serious drive from our club to get Charlie to stay. I hope so.
26 May 2011 at 12:16 am #66622you can forget him signing for any of the clubs outside the top six, utd, city cant really see him going to either these same with arsenal, chelsea and spurs so its liverpool,BUT theres been a change in charlie attitude since his spat in jan transfer window so i think theres every chance he may get a new contract because as a team theres been a real togetherness which i noticed at the blackpool game, heres hopeing

I think you need to take a bit of a reality check Area51.
Every single one of those clubs you mention is a step up from Latics
Everton – will be expecting to challenge for a UEFA cup spot
Fulham – have played in European finals, finished in the top 10, are in Europe again next season & have a wealthy backer who puts his money where his not inconsiderable mouth is
Stoke – only wound up finishing 4 points above Latics but reached a cup final, are playing in europe next season & have a chairman willing to sanction (relatively) big money moves & (relatively) big wages
Aston Villa – didn’t have the best of seasons by their expectations but will expect to push for the UEFA cup spots next season & have a chairman willing to sanction £24mill moves for players
Sunderland – a mid season collapse this time out but still finished in the top half & have the financial backing to try & improve on that
Newcastle – Again finished above Latics & have the Andy Carroll money burning a hole in Pardew’s pocket to try & improve
Blackburn – I’ll probably give you that one as a kind of sideways step but purely coz I can’t get my head round their new owners who talk of pushing for the champions league & making moves for Kaka or whoever & then sack Allardyce & appoint Keen. If they put their money where their mouths are it makes em both bigger & more ambitious than LaticsFor all Bobby’s talk of pushing for a top 10 finish next season, from past experience we know we have a chairman who is happy with surviving. Its likely that (whilst I agree they may make moves to try & retain N’Zogbia) our best players will be sold & cheaper replacements brought in. Nowt wrong with that if it ensures the club’s survival.
The club was sold to N’Zogbia as a stepping stone & in his eyes that will mean the chance to earn more money & in a team less likely to be in a relegaton scrap26 May 2011 at 11:46 pm #66728FRANCE
26 May 2011 at 11:59 pm #66730Ok, let me have my reality check. We have very recently also had our Cup Final (off top of my head was it 2006?) and also have finished in top 10.
I am not questioning that some of the teams mentioned are bigger than us in the eyes of the footballing world. But why should their goals be any different from our own. We should be and i believe we will be aiming for the same achievements as Stoke, Sunderland, Villa, Fulham. My initial comments were that Charles would do just as well to stay with us. He is familiar with our style of play and clearly benefitted from it, finishing our top goal scorer.
I dont believe a move to one of the mentioned clubs is a step up for him.
Anyway Tylders!! reality checks cant be requested as im still in the clouds from last weekend!!!
