A team full of committed players. A team full of lower league players playing above themselves. Cohesion. A belief and confidence in each others abilities. A strong bond with each other. Playing to each others strengths, and compensating for each others limitations. Doing the simple stuff really well, and leaving the fancy stuff to the right moments.
A team of mainly BRITISH players, playing with passion for their shirt.
That was Blackpool, today.
It was also us, when we first got promoted.
THAT is what is wrong with us now. We have too many mercenaries in the team, who have one eye on the next move. We lack most, if not all of the qualities listed above. Where is our ‘Major Kav’? The experienced head to lead the younger players? Or the ‘De Zeeuw’ The rock at the back? Or even the experienced head of Jason Roberts in attack?
Blackpool did exactly what I expected them (and any other unfashionable club fighting the odds) to do…a stark reminder of just how far we have [s:r598bd87]come[/s:r598bd87] drifted since we were in their shoes.
If only there was anyone at the club bar Whelan and Pollitt who can remember that “far” back. I wonder how many of the current squad have actually looked back at our history and seen what they are priviledged to be a part of.
Good luck to Blackpool – I hope they become everyone’s 2nd fave team just like us, Reading and Hull did in our respective promotion seasons.
I have randomly selected this thread to say there are some deluded fcukers on here ! Most threads have (as a forum should have) the positive crew but hey lads ( Positive crew ) get yourselves into the real World ! This team of mercenaries is gonna take us down ! A bloke with some b o l l o c k s and passion could maybe turn the tax dodging wannabes into a half decent team but a guy who just stands there with his arms folded bereft of ideas might as well just fcuk off !
